Now I know Seriously Irritating is on a wind up. He surely can't believe this crap. " 25 chances and 58% possession is not to be sniffed at. It will be up to new owners to acquire decent strikers so as to convert this into goals. Let's see what the squad looks like end of the month." He has been saying this since he has been posting.
Most of them must be on a wind up on there. Let's see where we are, when 'let's see where we are' appears in the next ridiculous thread.
58% possession at home is about par for the course, nothing remarkable. Of the 25 shots we had, 2 were on target. The number of off-target shots is not a great measure of a performance in my opinion. They can be anything from strikes that rattle the woodwork to ridiculous punts into row Z or hopeless / frustrated efforts. To even test the opposition goalkeeper your shot has to be on target. How many of Charlton's 23 off-target shots hit the post or crossbar? A better stat would be how many saves does your opponent's goalkeeper have to make. It's all academic anyway. We could not score more than one goal in the 90 minutes, we could not defend the one goal lead and our players missed three penalty kicks. Not enough to progress in any knock-out competition. Remember the last time Charlton scored more than one goal in a game? 5th December - Checkatrade Trophy against Swansea schoolboys. And in the League? A 2-2 draw against Peterborough back in late November. That was ten games ago.
