I thought that was a tribute to the Portman Road pitch. Afterall we always used to win groundsman of the year (born winners!!)
not sure your groundsman won it in 1996 after he drove that bloody tractor around it just before the derby!!
i was there that day and all your goals were offside or handball or fouls in the build up. guru agrees
that was my lowest ebb as a city fan that day. i took my little brother with me for his first derby at the portaloo and he was so excited. i was very worried due to our appalling form and enormous injury list at the time. your form was outstanding to boot - i think you'd hit 5 the week before too! from the very first minute it had 'cricket score' written all over it. having said that, the following year we both went back to the portaloo in even more dismal form and an even lengthier injury list and won 1-0 thanks to craig bellamy, so corrected many of the wrongs of the previous season. it was humiliating but at least we bounced back - you can't be sure when you will get the chance to bounce back - it could be a lengthy wait, you never know!
Supers Watching your Norwich team reminds me a lot of the Ipswich team we had in the late 90's early 00's! We both played the game the right way with plenty of invention and we both surprised a lot of "bigger" clubs. I would just go on to say that you need to be aware of second season syndrome!
i believe i may have been poo-pooed by one of your fellow fans during last season for such a comparison warky! it may even have been you!! its true though, we are similar in our style and even momentum - people forget but ipswich were used to winning at that time - they had maybe three or four seasons of near misses but were always winning high numbers of games each year. that winning formula is what city have now - we won't finish 5th - football has changed a lot since then and it would basically be impossible due to the money, but its quite an even league apart from the top few, so we could finish in the top half. we could equally finish bottom though
This great run of 6 unbeaten including 4 wins is probably the best run we have been on since Joe Royle!
a bit like last season, the championship is there for the taking. very little between any of the teams and a lack of quality throughout the league. get a good run going and you can be in the top six. equally, a poor run will see you in the bottom six! i've watched a few championship games this season and haven't been impressed with anybody except the posh against you, though that was probably a bit of a one-off as you were truly abysmal that day and the ref cocked up a couple of times early on to make it even easier for them.
the 5-0 was brilliant - The north stand conga - was one of the best moments I can remember at a football match. I also loved the chant of 'how wide do you want the goal'
