The season starts with hopes and aspirations as always.

The reality will be played over the next 9 months but it would be nice to be well placed in the table from the start and not trying to play catch up in the second half of the season.

I like Rowett and thought he would have been good for us before Trollope was appointed. Hope we've made the right choice.

Today's result won't decide anything but a positive approach from Trollope & Co in this opener would be a great start.

Newcastle got a bit of a shock at Fulham last night.

Indeed they did. Maybe something of a Championship culture shock for them (and Rafa) after all the hype.

Newcastle may still be clear favourites for the title but that's 3 points they can't get back.

As we've said many times before - this is a league where anyone can beat anyone.

They always say the start of the season is about performance and the end of the season about results. Lets hope we get both today. Some attacking play in our new formation and some solidity from the back 3 and I'll be happy.

Quite optimistic actually. A sound looking first 11 with options off the bench.

Choo has indicated a couple additions on the cards which would be nice. A bit more of a goal threat and a bit more pace in the wider channels and we'd have a rounded squad (no reference intended to Kennedy there Sparkey).

And as Blue suggests, welcome to the championship Rafa.

In the absence of anything else on here, I've made this the Matchday Thread. <ok>

Well done Sparks. Barry Tiger and another mate en route to Brum. I've told them not to come back unless they have 3 points in the bag.

Hope the gang of 3 or even 4 if you can include Adeyemi can ship out so we can get in some better quality players as Remote says.

I like the look of the side as well Dai.

If those wingbacks workout OK, having Pilks and Immers through the middle just behind Gounongbe could cause anyone huge problems.

So much so that although Brum are 6/4 favourites for the game, I've just stuck a tenner @ 21/10 on a City win. <ok>

What's happened to CCFC Player commentary? Can't get a peep out of it. Anyone got the same problem or am I going to have to thump my laptop?

Neither here nor there. Looks like Gonzo missed a sitter first half.

Better result than last season though so we are plus one point.

One negative I'm told by my correspondent BT. Jazz Richards would not do the Ayatollah!!!
