£20m is only a good deal if we have viable replacements lined up. Bent going for £24m seemed to good to be turned down, but what's the point of having all this money if we don't have quality players to spend it on. I'd like to hear us being linked (strongly, not in a gossip column, but by a Bruce, Quinn or the player themselves) to a top class replacement before we even think about selling.
I totally agree, we surely need to have someone lined up or preferably signed before selling.

This says it all. Though Bruce is supposedly on holiday, I'd still expect Quinn or Walton to release something. Short... Not so much. He's no Gold/Sullivan.

nothing from the lad also?

would like to know what he's thinking....

Selling Bent & Henderson in the space of 6 months, this is not progress in my eyes no matter how much we get for them

unfair IMO, Bent wanted out and it would have been mad to stop him going. Hendo for 20mil and a massive pay rise and chance for the lad is the right thing to do. Progress will be how we use the cash not who we sell.

Seems to me Liverpool want him,
He wants to go to Liverpool,
And SAFC want to get as much money as possible, as long as the money recieved is freed up to allow top replacements, us mugs just have to live with it.
But the figures that are being suggested, does allow for Bruce to look top players to add quality, but looking and doing are completly different.

just come on sky sports, nothing new..

Skysports.com understands that talks are ongoing between Liverpool and Sunderland regarding Jordan Henderson.

The 20-year-old has emerged as a top target for the Reds, who want to agree a deal before he leaves with England this weekend for the Under-21 European Championship finals in Denmark.

But Henderson is one of Sunderland's best players and the Stadium of Light club are believed to be holding out for a fee in the region of £20million.

Liverpool have yet to meet that asking price, although it has been reported that they could be prepared to offer players in part-exchange and David Ngog has been mentioned among the possible makeweights.

Premier League champions Manchester United have also been linked with Henderson, but it appears that Liverpool is his preferred destination.

Pressure
Talks are understood to have started last weekend as Liverpool boss Kenny Dalglish continues his rebuilding job at the 18-time champions of England.

But Henderson only signed a five-year contract at Sunderland in April 2010 to mean that Steve Bruce is not under any pressure to sell the homegrown talent.

let him go and get craig gardener. he's only 24, plus larrson on a free at 25 both are a good age, and you could prob tye up a deal for gardener for around 6m. Quids in, goal scoring replacements.

i'd stil rather see Hendo go to Old Trafford. At least he'd win things there.
