TB - I guess you're love of watching Liverpool players is just a symptom of your love of all things Red on Merseyside! I presume you had the same love for Lucas aged 22, offering your 'qualified opinion' that he'd never make it in the PL...
Interesting that a comparison with Osman's progress has been made. If you remember the old 606 Tobes, you'lll back me up that I frequently defended Osman from your own fans on your board, and have said he's one of the most underrated crossers of a ball in the Prem (up there with Gerrard, imho). Not saying YOU attacked him, but my point is, and it's been made here too, is that he's young, developing, can control and pass a ball, has one of the best engines in the league, but didn't exactly excel at right wing/midfield or full back. he's no Gerrard and never will be, and he's suffered from some people expecting him to be Gerrard's successor based on his fee (was it £14m, £16m or £20m, btw? The mail sems to up the fee when he plays a stinker, and lower it when he plays well). Can't believe you (like my brother-in-law) believe Shelvey is the better prospect - now there IS a headless chicken - but tbf I'm an armchair fan nowadays whilst you and he at least are season ticket holders.
Osman was still getting stick from Blues who haven't a clue about the game, up until recently mate. One of the most underated players at our club in the modern era. However, he was pushed out wide for the majority of his early career with us & he didn't have the pace for that role. He only looks a proper player when he's played centrally, so I take your point re: Henderson. As I said earlier, he might develop into a fine player & make my view look stupid, but I just can't see it in him. As for Shelvey, up until this season I'd have said he was a headless chicken, but he's showed in patches that he's got something of late. If he can lose the attitude & continue to work hard at his game, he could really make it imho.
We'll see mate Wouldn't be the first time, but I reckon I've got far more right than wrong over the years.
Agreed...and this to me is what's giving Henderson the edge over him at the moment, he's put in that hard work since he arrived, kept his head down and mouth shut and just maybe starting to turn the corner because of it. I'm not criticising Shelvey as such because he's definitely got ability and character. As fans we all see things differently and have differing opinions on players but most fans appreciate those that turn up week in week out and put a shift in. I hope I can be saying that about Shelvey and Henderson in seasons to come
I've said for ages he reminds me of Lucas a few years ago. I mentioned this higher up in this thread too. #12
Me too.. I rate the lad.. get a feeling with more game time, will give him more confidence which should help further his development!
Thought Coutinho was good, had he taken his chance he would have been my MOTM. Can't argue with Gerrard though, controlled the ball, scored the winner and saved one on the line to preserve the lead. Henderson did play well though, needs to play every game for the rest of the season to show he should be in the first 11 come next season.
Begs the question again as to why the hell Allen has had game time ahead of him recently? Especially if he's injured. Makes no sense at all. I've said before not only has his general play improved but his presence (basically through his work rate) gives Gerrard more freedom too. We'll probably flog him in the summer
