They ain't english though, and the 'English premium' is well known. Our clubs don't need to sell low as incomes are substantially higher, this is fact.
Look. If you want to keep deluding yourself and thinking that your star player is worth as much as some of the hottest prospects in Europe, go ahead. I'm just giving you an unbiased opinion from outside of the Sunderland bubble. And it does not mean that Henderson is their priority target. Teams have players they want to sign, and then they have players who are must-have targets (like Carroll was). No one knows whether Liverpool are desperate to sign Henderson apart from Liverpool themselves. Yeah, £15million. I've said that Henderson could be worth £10mill, so whilst £15mill would be overpriced, it's viable. However, £20mill? Gimme a break.
None of us think he's WORTH that, but i'm confident that someone would pay it, end of. Your opinion is not unbiased, it's Mag influenced, as are the majority of your posts.
How can you be CONFIDENT that Henderson would be sold for £20million? Haway man. If he developers into a consistently world class midfielder, then he could go for £20mill+. However, right now, if a club like Liverpool paid that, it would be one of the most ridiculous buys of the season. If they have an ounce of common sense, I can't see it happening.
Time will tell, althiugh SAFC have said they don't want to sell, there will be a breaking point. What that is, and will anyone pay it, remains to be seen.
Sunderland would be mad not to accept £12million imo - nevermind £15mill. With that sort of money, you could buy a new midfielder who is probably better and also far more consistent.
I could see Liverpool going to maybe £15-16, either/both of the Manc clus show an interest and then there's a bidding war, City wouldn't miss a blink at paying it. I'm not saying it will happen, but it's hardly fantasy. £35million for Carroll, who was a £15million player.
Liverpool wont pay £20million, that is why they offered £13 million. We wont budge unless they meet our stupid and untrue valuation of him but who gives a **** if we want £20million, obviously hes not worth it and not value for money but if Liverpool or whoever pay it then we are the ones laughing. The mags seem to forget that the Ashley factor always strikes and this summer will be no different, watch out second best team in the North East its coming to get you!!!
Exactly. With the purchase of Bent we were like 'BAM hello, we're sunderland and we're building a great squad'. The sale of Bent will have done the opposite, and this off season we need to buy real quality first, to attract people north.
Every team sells players. Sometimes star players. Even Man Utd sold Ronaldo. It isn't necessarily a bad thing. We sold Carroll, and with the money, we're now building a squad which could be FAR stronger than it was before. Sometimes selling players can be a wise choice, and other players/managers know that. Selling expensive players isn't an automatic sign that you're just a selling club. If you start flogging ALL your best players, then it possibly is.
I'm probably one of the few here who really can't see what all the hype is about Henderson. It seems like almost sacrilege to say this, but I really don't see it. At 13 mill or more I expect to see a player that can change a game single handed. JH can't do that. His performances this season have barely risen above the pedestrian and at other times he has been plain rank. In terms of his overall contribution I'd be more concerned if Liverpool were looking at Colback who in my view has far more potential to become a top player than Henderson has. More consistent for a start. He appears to be getting better game by game. The same can not be said in all honesty about JH.
Personally Id be gutted if he went. He is the best thing to come out of the academy in years and we need to build a team with the likes of Hendo and Colbeck as a bedrock. If we are in the business of selling our best youngsters before we have had a chance to watch them meet their potential we may as well pack up now! I'm not disagreeing with the fact he was poor at times last yr but the lad has class.
KenBruce. He's really only featured regularly this season, so I'm not sure what your are basing your estimation of him on.
This season??? What about last yr too??? I'm not saying he is the finished article but Id like to see him get there with us rather than Man U etc... The kid can't be that poor if their is so much (reported) clamour for his signature. But opinions are like arseholes
Not his biggest fan but he's english. Keep him We need more brits in the team. Only early last season we had one of the highest percentages of english players and were doing well. If a ridiculous offer came in fair enough, but who (british) would you get as a replacement and for what cost.
I've not got a problem with Henderson, but he seems to have special rules which are just for him. He's one of these "good players" who rarely if ever has a good game. THat's what gets my piss boiling about the hype.
Chappaz- i know where you're coming from. However I just feel that (unfortunately) being SAFC, we're hovering between attracting good top-10 (top 6?) players, and relegation fighters. If they look at Bent in Jan and potentially Hendo in summer, 2 of our better players, moving on, top level players wont want to come here. Yes if it is wisely reinvested it wouldnt be the end of the world, but getting improvements on Hendo to SAFC is a challenge. Just look at who we're being linked with.. Nobody stands out as top-quality. And people will always want to play for Utd. Unfortunately we're not in that boat! I really hope you are right, but I think it will make quality players think they'll go elsewhere.
I'd rip anyones arm off if they offered £6m or more He's ****ing ****e. Well not totally ****e but nothing special at all
