Surely if he adds goals then he will? That was the point, he needs to add regular goals talking 10 a season. He won't get 20, lampard had the benefit of being an attacking midfielder with not much defensive responsibility and could play off the big CF.

Hendo will be expected to be a more all round midfielder though.

  3. This claim from people bugs me. Do you not watch our games? Henderson as played some superb through balls whilst at Liverpool. He doesn't do it all the time but nor do you want a player doing it all the time as that becomes predictable. Hendo is a work horse but he is also much more than that too.

But at 25 he's not suddenly going to simply "add goals" to his game, that's the point. It's like saying if Aaron Lennon could add goals to his game he could be our Ronaldo, it's nonsense. As he patently hasn't got a plethora of goals in his game, and he won't be moving into a No.10 berth will he?

  8. Lampard is such a bad example to use IMO. I'm not saying he was poor, far from it. I'm saying his figures are way beyond most central midfielders, Scholes and Gerrard were both exceptional players but neither (Gerrard maybe for a season or two) got remotely close to Lampard's scoring record. Henderson adding around ten goals a season to his game is more in liking to Gareth Barry (pre-Man City) or David Beckham (at Man Utd) than Frank Lampard!

lampard got that many... and for a while chaill did too for simple reasons

    1. they were genuinely good at finding space and joining the box at just the right time to ge to nthe end of things

    2. They didn't have defensive duties to worry about!

Do you think lampard could make a run into the box late for his whole career and not end up out of position quite a bit. for every lampard there is an essien etc doing the lag work.

same for yaya and back when gerrard was socring it was machernao and alonso

There are a few players out there that if you said cut loose mate don't worry about what's behind you that would score a bucket load too.

    Lampard had:

    1. pens

    2. special talent for finding that spec in the centre of the goal

    3. A decent shot on him from both feet (left was very coached but still)

If you compare lampard to a scholes in his heyday paul scholes was a far far better striker of the ball by far but he was playing deeper and deeper as he progressed in his career and didn't get in the box. A beckham was wider right crossing it.... just for example

I think you have to give props to lampard for socring them but see that actually if you plonked others in the same role they'd get quite a few goals... prob not as many as he had that quality but still... pens and the ability to just join without fear of whats behind helps a lot and being at a top 4 team surrounded by top players all the while helps even more..

One could only surmise that if lampard had played in a prior ear with two forwards upfront in a 442 and someone else took pens he'd get a very different return just from field position.

In short if henderson is suddenly given all pens (and if he works at it) and is played box to box and encouraged to get high up as his press can be good then there is a strong likelyhood he'll get 10-15 goals....

once he actually aims shots of course.

I don't see lampard's ability i nthe air from him nor getting in the right spot so my view is edge of box type stuff plus pens....

  12. You could apply all that to Coutinho too (well, maybe not the penalties part). They've been working on their shooting and they're slowly getting better but don't let the recent scoring exploits disturb your view, they still needs a lot more work.

Glad he's signed as we need him for now and he's a good player with the right attitude, but in the future I hope that we're aspiring to a better level of player, both bringing them through the academy and signing first-teamers from other clubs

And yes, he's shown Sterling up for the knob jockey he is

Well last year he scored a out 3, this year he has 10 in all comps and 6 in league I think? Next year if he carries on with a 300% increase then 30 is on the cards <whistle>

And also he was allowed to shoot on sight!. Sums it up well but Lampard was great at this which is why the managers let him do all that.

Chuck him and say Gerrard into the England team where both had defensive duties and it all goes tits up (and also international defences are better)

  16. Can't wait for the ninety goals in 2016-17 season <diva>

    When he's thirty years old in 2020-21, it'll be a modest 7,290 goals <whistle>
