I don't think we can criticise these players for not signing for us as we don't know what was going on behind the scenes at Portsmouth, it sounded like it was a complete farce how they dealth with the whole saga. Plus at the time we were on a very bad run of form and what 1 point above the relegation places with Portsmouth a few points clear of us and a new potential owner on the horizon. I don't think we can look to much into why the players didn't come here when we had bids accepted.
Fire sale or not I wouldn't touch any of the Portsmouth players with a barge pole! We can do a lot better if Paul Jewell finally gets his act together!
I would like to think that we would only take him on loan with a view to a sale in the summer.....lets face it you guys have ****ed us about enough already this season...?
Top targets in the summer that are realistic and would bring extra quality that we are lacking. Scott Loach GK from Watford, MacFadzen CB from Crawley Town, Matt Ritchie LM from Swindon Town, Matt Lowton RB from Sheffield Utd
I think there was a bit of "****ing about" on both sides. Lets face it, Ipswich did try to get the three of them for a knock down price.
Any club would have done the same in our position. We know all to well what its like to be screwed over but at the end of the day we offered a substantial amount, you turned it down and I think we should all now move on.
There was also the fact that Andronikou had promised money from the sale of other CSI assests and from Chainrai to cover the running costs of the club until another owner could be found to consider. This money failed to materialize meaning that the decision not to sell them was a bad one. Also Appleton asked the players if they wanted to leave and they all said no. With Andronikou promising that the running costs of the club would be covered by a different income and the players not wanting to go trying to get all three of them for about £2million wasn't going to cut it.
Yeah, clubs always try to pick the bones of those who are struggling, get the best players at a cheaper price but it still comes across as insulting to the fans to do so. I agree though that what happened, happened and we should all move on and bear no grudges over it.
Not a bad shot stopper, commands his area pretty well which I guess is why he is favoured over Ashdown, but his distribution is poor.
I've no idea what they wanted from Ipswich. I dont even know if it got to the negotiation phase. All I know is that Andronikou promised the club money it didn't get and players weren't sold for one reason or another.
I would look at Joe Murphy from Coventry for the keepers jersey. Always looked good at Scunthorpe and still looks good in a **** coventry side.
I concur with Warky & Jonah, go **** yourselves Poormouth There's better options out there tbh. Are we trying to set a new record of fielding the most amount of keepers in a season.
When we were forced into administration after relegation from the Premier League I seem to remember that good old 'Arry screwed us over when he got Herman for peanuts! Now you accuse us of doing the very same thing! That is why some of us share hostility towards Portsmouth. Last season your then manager tapped Norris up half way through the season and then you offered him higher wages and a longer contract than we could. To compound it all you then ****ed us about in January over the purchase of some of your players! I hope you get the picture!!
I think you'll find Herman went to Charlton for peanuts, not portsmouth!! Just to say the more pragmatic fans don't agree with this populist view!!
