I'm not too concerned who the official captain is. They don't do anything on the pitc in the same way they do during cricket (make decision on fieldings and bowlers) or rugby where they are only ones that can talk to the ref.

Just need someone who can calm players down when needed, and get the team going. We should have 3 or 4 of those and hopefully Henderson can step up, along with players like Sakho or Lovren to get the team going when needed.

  2. TBH, I couldn't give a f**k who wears the armand. All it means is they take part in the coin toss and could potentially be the first to lift a trophy should we win one.

Players can still be leaders without the armband; aka Carragher!

I don't post on this site very often but read it a lot. Although an Arsenal fan and season ticket holder I like to read the Liverpool board also as I feel you guys are the most active/articulate followers on this site. My personal opinion (for what it matters) is that Henderson would be an excellent vice captain for you guys. He has clearly matured under Rodgers and to (again only my opinion) a greater extent Gerrard. To me Gerrard leadership is what made him one of the best, obviously not quite Adams or Vieria but close. If Gerrard retires at the end of next season (or starts to take a stepped back role) Henderson is the man to fill his boots for the next ten years. I seriously don't understand why fans of other teams don't see how important he was last season. If we'd had him in next to Arteta doing his running for him I think we could have pushed for the title. Some players reach their peak and finally fulfil their potential far later than others but I seriously think he will just get better and better for you guys. If he stays with you for the rest of his career you can build a team around him. I know he will never be thought as highly of as Gerrard in your eyes but I can see him being spoken of as a club legend in a decades time. I hope I'm right as I had seeing young lads getting their confidence destroyed by fickle football fans (and to be fair we are the most fickle people in the world). Anyway as I've written an essay and you probably don't care about the ramblings of a gunner I'll leave it at that. Just thought some credit was due where deserved.

I dont agree with strikers being club captain. Or goalkeepers. Carra....best captain the club never had. Real shame. I have high hopes for Lovren, vocal and powerful. Could be a good shout in a season or two. The Captain is more than a coin toss. It the player that drives the team on the pitch and leads. Its vocal....Carra was superb at that, dont think Stevie is but leads by inspiration but can be headless when the game is running away. Look at his performance after we conceded the goal against Chelsea.

You can come on here more <whistle>

Think Henderson along with Flanno improved most last season and if Henderson can continue like that then no doubt he'll be the consistent player in that midfield for us. A lot of his work goes unnoticed (similar to Allen) by rival supporters because he doesn't hit the headlines with 30 yard goals etc. He does need to add goals to his game, but he's improved that area each season. Lampard and Gerrard both didn't start scoring goals until their mid 20's so Hendo still has time to improve that area of his game.

As for captain material, well I guess time will tell. Will he excel with the added responsibility or will it be a burden to him? Guess we wont know until it happens but he seems the obvious long term replacement. I guess Rodgers' knows his character better than any of us so will be able to make that judgement call.

Just because Carragher didn't wear the armband, doesn't mean he didn't lead the team.

Hi and Gerrard worked well. Gerrard was never and still isn't the loudest, but the man inspires people by what he does. We saw the motivation towards the end of the season with the huddles and comments etc. Carragher was much more of a shouter, organiser. Both have their different advantages, but when together they made the perfect team <ok>

I think Sahko would have a good stare. He can just stare at someone and they'll sort themselves out. <ok>

I don't think he does need to add goals to his game. I see that written a lot about players and I don't see why. With sterling, Sturridge and courtinho/lallana probably the attacking players to start next season for you there's more than enough goals there. I remember when Keane first signed for United and used to score a lot more but it's when he moved back and kinda took that part of his game away he improved so much more. I think ever team needs players that won't score or even assist goals but to be the guy that assists the assisters (if that makes sense). It's these guys that are most vital to the team even if the don't score high points in fantasy football or get good stats that a lot of idiots seem to need to refer to. Petit is one of Arsenals most important players of the last 20 years but his stats would look terrible. He was the one that started off most of the fantastic attacking football. That's what I see Henderson doing for Pool

But these days with teams only playing 1 up front, midfielders need to chip in. I'm not saying he needs 20 goals a season, but somewhere like 5-10 goals in the league will be a good return. He's not a defensively midfielder so needs to be expected to contribute in that aspect. Also, when you see him score some of his goals he obviously has the talent to put the ball away (1st goal against Bolton, goal against AC Milan yesterday, the one where he broke and chipped over the keeper last year). He has the ability to finish, just needs to become more consistent.

He was actually vice captain at first. But Redknapp was injured all the time so Hyypia was captain a lot.

Aww I fully believe he can finish. He's got a calmness in front of goal now he never had before. And I probably do agree with 5-10 I just think with the 5 mids that should prob start for you guys, sterling, markovic (is that correct, great signing) and courtinho will be the ones to get them. I do think when Henderson is paired with Can he will push forward more than when he's paired with Gerrard. I feel he needs to sit deeper to cover Gerrards older legs than he will with Can (Another very good signing). But you obviously know a lot more about your club than I do, just my outsiders opinion.

And now I've realised I've been far to sensible for an opposition fan on this site so I will Add that we've signed far better players than use, Sanchez picked us and we'll finish higher than use :1980_boogie_down:

true about playing with Gerrard he'll have to sit back a bit more, but that'll only be for 1 or 2 more seasons. If you think Coutinho will be the one scoring goals you've not seen him shoot. The guy is worse than Allen when it comes to finishing <laugh>

And Sanchez was **** today so we definitely dodged a bullet there <whistle>
