My daughter and friend are travelling up from York on Saturday for the Ed Sheeran concert, driving back after concert and looking for the best place to park. I've suggested parking in or around the city centre and walking over the bridge but I'm not familiar with parking and I realise there will be large numbers of others looking to do the same.
Any suggestions welcome.
 
It would appear that most of the city car parks I've spoken to expect to be filled by 2-3pm. Unfortunately my daughter works Sat morning so won't be able to get up here much before 4pm.
Further complication is that none of the people I've spoken to will accept prepaid parking reservations!I
I've thought of suggesting the Metro from South Hylton but I have no idea of the secure car parking there?
If anyone has any suggestions I would be eternally grateful.

No dedicated parking for the metro at south hylton but could use the retail car park. Not sure if there is a time limit on it though.
 
I live in Grangetown and walk to Jameson’s when the weather is ok, 40 minutes, a canny few pints then 15 minutes to the SoL. That’s an option and you could find a street closer if you look round the Ashbrooke area. I’m in Hillview and your car would be ok here.
 
Just thought, park in the Rosedene car park, I’m not sure it gets locked up but I doubt it. Tunstall Rd bank is closer to walk from anawl.

We sometimes park in B&Q carpark, then it's only 10 minute walk over the bridge to SOL, and easy to get away from afterwards.
I'm dropping DIL and her mate off about 2 today, pleased I'm not going back to pick them up, it'll be manic round the stadium when they all pile out tonight
 
Monkwearmouth hospital, no charges after 17.00 and a short walk to the SOL. Also not far from A19, can drive through boldon afterwards to get back on the A19
 
Not sure if the University has parking available for it at the Chester Road campus. They generally do on match days, so that might be an option if its available. And near there next to the Isis and Museum Vaults there's a car park where the covid testing site used to be. Both of those are only maybe 20 minutes walk to the stadium.
Failing that there's a car park on hylton Road at Booth Street, near the Willow Pond, only about a 5 minute walk from Millfield metro station.

Looks like ned_werby has come to the rescue, he's offered my daughter parking at his place.

Certainly not what I was expecting, but hey that's a real kind gesture.

Thanks again for all who responsed, from a father who's still worried about his kids safety 20 years after they left home!

Great gesture, well done Ned, when I dropped off about 2.30 there's some roads closed so not sure how close you can get to SOL. Hope everyone has a great gig.

partner and her disabled brother managed to get to the stadium but apparently signs are not in place, she should have just waited at some bollards by all accounts and getting away from the stadium was as bad if not worse than match day...with the concerts taking off again would it really be too hard for some secure 'park and walk/ride' to be made available as surely it helps the area to have the extra custom, make it a nice and straightforward experience rather than leaving folks to battle road closures and attempting to find parking.

I'd agree with that however the question would be who is responsible for it.
I don't know the details but if the club merely hired the stadium to the promoter then surely it's down to the promoter to contact the local Council and organise. However if the club is the promoter then the club is responsible.
Overall I think that Sunderland as a City has to do everything that it can to promote a positive image and details matter
