Things have changed in my household. My wife is now a candy crush addict, our viewing habits have changed on the TV. We now download films and programmes most days, rather than live watch. I watch TV on the IPad and even today have watched three or four You Tube vids. Just six months ago, my own usage was different. In the next year I expect far more downloading and Internet usage, to the extent that I will be increasing to 100 meg. Just a bit of useless info PLT
I've got unlimited downloads, I'm increasing my speed, I have just done a speed test and Im at 18.5mb/s and I will change that to over 100Mb/s.
I recall you're in the Southampton area. Are you sure it's possible to get 100Mbps down there? In most parts of the country the fastest you can get is the VDSL fibre services that BT and Sky do, but that realistically only goes up to about 30-40Mbps.
I used to work for talk talk selling fibre broadband and I did speed tests where lines could handle the full fibre speed of 70 meg.
Yeah that VDSL fibre is 'up to' 80Mbps but realistically only gets 30-40 in the vast majority of cases. No doubt there are some that do handle it, but the absolute max is 80Mbps. Same as the absolute max for normal ADSL is 24Mbps. To get 100Mbps you'd need Fibre to the Home which is what KC are fitting round here. It's possible to get it with a BT line, but they charge something like £3k to install it so I don't think anyone actually does.
I'm on Virgin and expect a free increase to 30Mb/s in April. They have offered 120Mb/s but I don't think that I could get it yet. I'll PM you my post code and you can check it out.
Virgin are a bit different. They do indeed offer 120Mbps in some areas because they use Fibre to the home same as KC. They have their own network rather than just using BTs like most of 'em do.
Done. If you notice one clown who put $0 down for how much they pay per month for service, that's not a piss take. My wife works for the cable company who provides our service.
