I can't see that an invitation to a member of the muslim comunity to a football match will promote a sense of community or ease tensions. I would feel very uncomfortable at a one sided gesture like that. If true integration is needed then why not pay on the gate like everyone else and do it voluntarily rather than some hollow sideshow that after all is not going to help this kids family financially. Sorry but that idea is something that I would find quite distasteful.

It also promotes the idea of them and us. This is a attack on our streets and if we are led to believe that ALL communities condemn this outrage then lets see it. Instead of condemning such actions in vague insincere ways , lets see some support from other communities with their initiatives. This is about one poor kid who lost his life to scum, lets support his memory and his family, rather than give others more freebies and handouts.

Sorry Typical but i think you miss the point. It is about bringing together two elements of ou community. Our armed forces who we all respect and admire and the islamic community who many do not. That community is in total shock and fear of reprisal as a result of what two individuals who profess to be part of their community have done. The extremists in our society are targetting them and trying to create hatred against them ( nick griffin and his slime ball attempt to garner support for his bunch of *%**#ment).
Lets show the local islamic community that they are part of our society and have them inside the tent pissing out........ But not let us forget our armed forces who do so much on our behalf.
 
What we must not do is turn this thread into some political argument. This is not about Islam, it is not about diverse community and certianly not about extremist on either side, it is about a young man who all I know about was a soldier, who wore a t shirt that got him killed. What is wrong with just concentrating on Lee Rigsby memory and his family?.The extremist can make whatever stock they choose from this outrage but I (and you) are smarter than failing into that trap of arguing over percieved inequalities.

Why can't we just honour our fallen without pandering to others? It simple really, any colour, creed can wear a t shirt in support or lay a weath (rather like those classy dignified group of Sikhs did yesterday) you don't have to be pushed or offered incentives to do the right thing.

Lets keep it simple. One agenda here only, raise money and awareness for lee Rigby and his chosen charity.
 
Typical, other communities are condemning this. There was a Nigirean community march of solidarity from Plumstead to Woolwich today, and the Islamic Society posted a note condemning the killing saying they were pround to be part of the British community, and that this sort of thing went against Islamic faith, civic responsibility and any given law. The purpose of terror is to polarise society, and these two guys have successfully done that,as according to the BBC, attacks and threats against Moslims and mosques has gone up sharply since the attack.
I agree your last post (it's becoming a habit!!) but without politicizing a particularly nasy incident, bringing people together seems no bad thing, especially since cretins like the EDL seem set on creating more victims.
 
I think this thread should be kept more as a tribute. We all have certain opinions/feelings towards aspects of the attack, but I think typicals original point of the club doing something to remember our fallen soldier is where we should focus posts on. It's a time if coming together to pay respect. It's what his family will want. And I'm glad the club are planning something to remember him.
 
Yes, and they will be planning to do it when the bereaved family think it's right, which is very important. I think we have to trust our club to do the right thing here.
