Hi

Im taking the Mrs and some friends to Beverley on Friday. It's a long time since i paid attention to any horse racing and was wondering if any of you guys could give some advice /tips

Thanks in advance.

I have been to this first-Friday-in-July evening meeting on a couple of occasions with friends who usually just have a few beers, lose a few bets and then go into Beverley market place to the various pubs and bars after racing. If you are in the 'members' enclosure, you will spend half the evening in the queues at their small bar so it might be best to go in the grandstand bar.

This card is stereotypical fare at Beverley. Only a French restauranteur is going to see anything that they think is a quality horse on this card. That is why I scarcely visit what is geographically my local track - only a couple of decent races in their calendar.

Stay away from the winner's enclosure after the first race because you might be mistaken as bidding if you try to swat an insect away during the auction!

At the time of writing, the two year old race (7:00) has been reduced to just three but Ladbrokes are still offering them all at odds against.

The best class race on the card is the 7:30 handicap but it does not take a rocket scientist to select the short-priced favourite Altharoos, as Sir Michael Stoute does not send them to East Yorkshire just for fun.

In the sprint handicap at 8:30 you should only be looking at horses with low draws because the sprint track is an uphill right-hand dog-leg. There is absolutely no value in the favourite Bondi Beach Boy but he has the best recent form and the six box.

Good luck - you will need it!
