I agree with you there, he'll certainly confuse Sparky but he does that to the rest of us anyway...

Nice try Wizey, but I'm here in peace (this time <laugh>).

If you're interested, I'm having another fiver on your game at Oldham on Friday. Going to go for the same bet again. At the moment it's a straight even money for a double chance Oldham or draw result. Maybe a low return, but it's just for fun and I've had loads of these come up this season.

Before anyone gets the idea I should contact in GA, I'm not a serious betting man and never was - I only place a few for a bit of fun.

The one time I ever really went for it was when we appointed Malky from Watford for his first season with us. After we'd just failed to go up several times under DJ, I stuck £300 on being promoted that season at 5/1 and another £300 on going up as Champions at 16/1.

Seemed like decent bet at the time, but then they always do eh lads? :emoticon-0105-wink: The really annoying thing was I was so pissed off I didn't re-do the bet the following season. <doh>

PS - should I be worried about this JGF2 bloke?

JGF is harmless and a good guy, he's about 90-100 years old and a bit like Proffessor Brown from Back to the Future. He is a maths geek that likes to predict and check odds etc.
You can say what you want to him, but it won't ruffle him bit like the crazy grandad of the team.

Glad you cleared that up ROD - I was a bit worried he might be out to get me. :bandit:

Anyway, back to the subject. You're odds on again to win at Lee Johnson's old club on Friday, but if you want to take the chance that you'll win it 1-0, you can actually get 6/1.

Now that seems worth a bet for you guys - I might have a covering couple of quid on it myself.

    £5 @13/10 = £11.50 - £5 = £6.50 profit

    £2 @ 5/1 = £12 - £2 = £10 profit

    £3 @ 3/1 = £12 - £3 = £9 profit
    £3 @5/2 = £10.50p = £7.50p profit (lowest price quoted by a dozen or more bookies)

to me it is a no brainer you wuzz robbed.....or robbed yourself! ..... just for interest.. in the 80,s I turned over an average of £ 86,000 a year for 7 years or so.. my biggest ever bet was twice on the same horse OH SO SHARP £11,000 to win, a horsre that in 5 of 7 races I came out £38,000 in front with
Most of my other bets other than £8000 Unite various odds to win the Irish Oaks, were less than £4000 typically <£1000 I stopped dead at the end of 1987 flat season after losing £30,000 in 7 straight races. If I couldn't get a winner in 7 races I would stop... profit or loss? .................on paper loss of £6000, the exchequer made more than I did!......lol

In 2002 a chance sweepstake on the Grand national gave me Blowing Wind, 9-10-6 I HAD BEEN ALL DAY! I also had 3 months back pay so took a price before the race day and 2 other prices highest I think was 14/1, I bet EW, never had for decades and picked up over £7000 but never had another bet till 2003 sweepstake was Amberleigh House took bets down to sp, EW and my second bet returned me £22, 000 and a months holiday all over Europe, My third and fourth bets were in 2004 when £1000 ew on Amberleigh house , ( old times sake! ) another £20 000+ and a comment on a horse called North light going into the Derby I put the change £1000 + on at AP and picked up over £9000, my last bet racing, was in 2005, £5000 ew Amberleigh House finished the race and finished me
Since just had some "little bets on City" most won in a season under a grand.. this season no bets...
VFM and playing with their money...... Ladbrookes, Corals, William Hill those 3 /4 years 2002 to 2004/5 NECTAR.................and a total of 5 months touring in hotels....

the double odds bet stake £10
    Oldham £10 = +£30
    draw £10 = +£25
    City £10 = +£9
    £10 Oldham win or draw +£8 ..... but 2 bets = ( £4.75 )+£9 /+£8.50
    £10 Oldham or City win +£3 ... 2 bets £7 City = +£3.50 / £3 Oldham = +£2 )
    £10 City win or draw +£2.50 .... 2 bets city £6.50 = £2.50 draw £3.50 = + £2.25
by finer adjustment of the stake you can get closer to parity

2 bets on Oldham win / draw is best, worst is City win / draw.
This bet is not dis similar to the way some professionals bet..
EG I reckon City will win so £100 @10/11 is £91 profit but I would be happy to either not bet odds sharp, so no bet, or just win £50 or lose less so £41 at 5/2 = £102 means I have lost £39.
either way its 2 bets from 3 £100 CITY WIN OR DRAW WOULD PAY +£25
iTS AS CLEAR AS SEVERN MUD BUT iAM SURE YOU CAN SEE IT?

    Hey JGF2 - I''m just a simple Old Sparkey mate.......<laugh>

I don't have multiple accounts with bookies (or on here for that matter <laugh>) and I don't trawl the odds with them either.

I'm not a serious gambler by any stretch of the imagination and have a single online account with Bet365 just for fun. It's the odd fiver or tenner on results for me, with a couple of quid here and there on the longer odds offered for correct results/correct scorers.

I can't hark back to the odds offered for other options on your Barnsley game, but the combo bet of a Barnsley win or a draw game was at 13/10 and is always set as a compromise to placing individual bets on the separate results at longer odds for each.

I note you fail to acknowledge your initial mistake in telling me I was being ripped off for taking 13/10 for the draw when I could have got better elsewhere. That wasn't the case as the odds I took covered both results not just the draw.

I haven't gone into the maths for the Oldham game, but I take your point that it may be marginally mathematically better to place two bets on the individual results rather than the combo but I can't be arsed to go there.

Save to say I have a little flutter without getting desperate to secure the last few pence. Life's far too short particularly if as ROD says you're a 90-100 year old compulsive mathematician. <ok>

As far as the closing of the upper Ninian stand for next season is concerned, I put up a thread on our board when it was first announced by the club on Monday - most of us accept it as common sense if bloody embarrassing.

On the attendance thing at our ground guys, we're not getting anywhere near 16K now JGF2. Although the official attendances have been shown recently somewhere around the 20K mark, the actuals have been well less than 15K in the ground.

I've been there for every game this season and I swear we've barely had 13/14K in there recently. This business of including season ticket sales in attendances is a bloody joke. We were definitely getting over 20K at the start of the season under OGS but that level slipped away and got even worse having to watch the dire stuff under Slade through mid season.

    Hello again playmates.

JGF2 - out of interest, just checked out the odds on my account for your game at Oldham - and you're wrong!!....<laugh>

They're offering even money for the Oldham win or draw combo bet, so a £10 bet would make me straight £10 profit eh?

On the other hand if I split that £10 on the separate results, they're offering 3/1 for an Oldham win and 11/4 for the draw. So let's split the tenner. That's a fiver on the win to earn me £15 and another fiver on the draw at 11/4 to win me £13.75 - with me so far?

Now the stark fact is taking that route means that only one of those results can happen so I'm going to lose the fiver placed on the wrong choice whatever happens. That doesn't happen with the combo bet because my £10 stake would be returned for either result - still there?

So if Oldham win I would get my £15 less the £5 I lost on the draw but still making a net profit of £10 - that is the maximum profit I could make. Now on the other hand, if it was a draw, I'd get my £13.75 return, but less the £5 lost on the win bet making a net profit of just £8.75 - less than the combo bet return would earn me.

C'mon now JGF2 - admit that that 90 year old slide rule of yours is a bit worn......<laugh>

Hi Redprintt - I'm just enjoying the chat with some of you guys prior to the shenanigins of next seasons - it'll be good to have you back.

On the betting front, I only normally have a little bet on our own games each week for fun, but as we had no game last weekend, thought I'd pop across and have a little flutter on your result against Barnsley. I won a few bob and then repeated the same bet on the Fleetwood/Preston game the following day and won again.

Since then the ****e has hit the fan with JGF2 and his sliderule telling me I'm doing it all wrong..........<laugh>

    HIHO
odds, on the doublebet on Sky were 5/6 2/7 and 1/4 individual odds 3/1 5/2 10/11 v Oldham

@ 10/11 OR EVS FOR CITY I wouldn't bet, and don't! at the mo!

Cardiff / Draw pays .41p more to do as 2 separate bets @5/2 or .16p @12/5 like you say pennies..... its catering for the masses there are 55 different ways you can bet on this game

Cardiff or Reading TO WIN BY I GOAL £5 PROFIT £2.75 ON READING AND £2.25 CARDIFF... COVERS 1-0 2-1 3-2 4-3

    HAPPY BETTING

    <ok> no probs pal.

Much the same on B365, only they're offering a straight evens on the Oldham/Draw double chance.

You are actually 5/6 to win the game and I agree with you, that's a poor bet despite the quality results you've had this season.

I'm going to go with the underdog/ draw combo again with an outrageous fiver......<laugh>

I might have a quick quid or two on another 2-2 scoreline - they're offering 14/1 for it. Whad'ya think, worth a punt?
