I hate that.. the thought that it's a business decision... Because it's also a business decision for the the sport. F1 would benefit from a new champion, hence why things were changed to hinder Merc this season. F1 wants, and would benefit from a new winner, and that will come first over the benefit to any team. That's just the way it is, and I get it. Merc dominance hasn't been good for F1, it doesn't matter who was driving for them. Any decision should always be a sporting decision.
Theres nobody but mercedes.making out anyone got hard done by here. Bringing race into this is absolutely wrong. First Hamilton's dq not not just justified its crystal clear in the rules. Second wolff even tried bring in the 5 place engine penalty as more hard done by in his whinge. Third the on board shows nothing more than the out of car stuff. It's not significant as it's still clear what verstappen did. The reality is hamilton has the vastly faster car and out raced every trick verstappen threw at him. Do we want a procession or a race here? Let them race and the best package will win. This is all about engine degradation now imo. I'd.be more worried about some stewards wandering up to merc and slapping an engine legality issue down than about verstappen braking late and being too narrow to ever make that corner but hamilton having the capacity to see it and avoid it and come back and win in a most exciting way.
It does annoy me that merc have been whinging about the 5 place grid drop for the engine . Thems the rules , if you don’t like them don’t change your bloody engine ! The rest of your post is spot on as well imho MITO . I’ve waited years to get to 3 races to go and not know who’s going to win the championships and now there could be legal issues that will just ruin it . It’s too bloody stupid for words .
I don't disagree with the sentiment on here. I like every one wants hard racing and an unpredictable outcome. I was simply stating facts and identifying why this is being questioned 1. 'Thems' the rules re driving someone off the road at the moment, ok, if not a penalty, change the rules and be consistent. 2. Toto has raised the race aspect when saying Lewis has had to battle this all his life and Lewis did in his sarcasm. 3. Not heard Merc complaining about the 5 place grid penalty for the engine, that is a new one. They did complain about the wing and they are connecting the dots of these three things. My post was simply to say all these things will either be on the table or in the minds today. This has become political. That was my observation. If you remove that, then look at the rules and look at the precedents and be consistent. If the rules are too stringent change them for next season. I do agree the sport needs a new champion, a new era, but do it cleanly not by brushing things aside when suits, change the rules officially. For the record I would rather see Ferrari than RBR become the new title holders in the new era but that is because some of the historical behaviour of RBR.
I do think Merc look a bit silly here. I suspect though they just want to achieve clear guidance so they all know the limit as this goes to the wire.
RBR would be all over this if the boot was on the other foot. So would Ferrari or another team if they had a chance at the title. I actually feel Merc came to this conclusion after a long soul search and has been influenced by those we don't hear from.
They are just trying to rattle RBR. They have been doing it all year with the rear wing and pit stops. And RBR have been doing it back. It's just getting a bit childish.
People always lose their **** when there's a lot of money and prestige involved. RBR started the silliness at Silverstone with Horner all but accusing Hamilton of attempted murder on what was a legitimate move. Still don't really understand how that penalty was justified, one of the most racing incidents of racing incidents imo.
Oh yeah, but that's when it got really silly though, everything before that was about the cars legality. Now it's borderline 'call in the police'
Im thinking that time with the yellow flags (Austria? 2020?) when red bull pushed the FIA to penalise Hamilton. I seem to remember Mercedes were not happy after this and the gloves were removed
If you want to see f1 racing . ]Start with Arnoux. V. Villenuve. Dijon 1979 . This lot would have them kicked out
No decision tonight- seems to be dragging longer than I thought - I expected this to be swiftly rebuffed and move on- maybe it’s just a tactic to heighten the interest in this weekends GP and title race
I really hope this doesn't change the results. A rule clarification is all that's needed. We want good racing but we all need to know where the boundaries are. Question: If a driver pushes another off on a corner that is monitored for track limits, there could be a case of a penalty for the driver that was pushed for exceeding track limits!!!
Agree with both of you chaps- let’s get it done but just give clarity on the rules. Doesn’t need any result amendment
How can it take so long? They either have a right to appeal or not. It's not like it's a grand jury. Sheesh.
