You can see from the view from Hamilton's car on reddit that he opens his steering up, it's as clear as day.
Sorry Ern . Are you saying max moved to push Lewis wide ? I’m not being funny , just having one of those days !
What I do find interesting is that the turn 4 incident they didn't have the in car footage from Max and the stewards could have said we will investigate after the end of the race but they didn't! OK so it's not good when we have to wait hrs after the finish to see who finished in what position and it makes a mess of podium ceremony but surely rules are rules? Still trying to see in car footage from Max but I'm guessing FIA/Liberty wont release it!!!! As for Toto and Horner - it does seem like Red Bull are usually first on the radio to who ever they can speak to to complain! I think Horner is significantly more 2 faced than Toto. It does seem like Toto is more emotional about the racing. He slams his fist into the desk, jumps up, throws his arms in the air and gives messages to the camera. Where as Horner just taps his foot.
The lack of onboard from Max is weird. Was the camera not working because I thought they had immediate access to all that. It's done though now, and on we go.
I'm not sure if Liberty have cameras in all available positions on all cars. One thing they do have is the 360 degree camera just in front of the cockpit that records internally and then has to be downloaded after the race! I would guess that might show the angle but there is also the steering angle data that should have been available to the stewards instantly if not within 5 mins or so. All they needed to do was compare the previous lap, the off track lap and the next one - all for speed, steering angle etc. I'm all for 'let them race' but there are limits how far someone should go. Max has a point advantage he knows worst case they both are taken out but then he still has the advantage. Plus pushing a compliant opponent soo far off the track without penalty has set a precedence!
It was definitely working, there's on onboard available right until the move, then It switches to rear facing. Weird how to they couldn't get that. Wonder if it had been looked at differently had their been contact.
Unless they do have multiple cameras but only 1 video transmitter, so director switched to rear camera at the wrong time? Very weird, I do wish stewards had to publish evidence of why a decision was made, at least then we would know a little more.
for me in the end I'd love to see the angles and i's sure its there but also there's no contact. Max just hasn't looked like he turned. Lewis beat him irrespective. I like that and don't really see the beef as i just see it as largely whingy and childish at this point. I think verstappen has placed himself to say go ahead hit me then to Hamilton and Hamilton has declined and came back and beat him. He also weaved like hell down the second straight to beak a toe so it was every trick in the book really. It is in the end no worse than loads of instances down the years where hamilton pushed others off like rosberg. Its not like hitting the other guy is it? Personally it just makes the duel better and stamps hamilton's dominance even more. Another track on another day and those dirty tyres would be game over though.
well, tbh I think he could have been catching a bit of oversteer, but yes, he stops turning and straightens his wheels mid-turn.
Yeah, I just want to see it out of curiosity as it's a bit of a gaping hole. Think it's pointless tying to pursue it now though, other than the whole seek clarification thing. Think he got away with one there though since he could have wound up third had they gone after him. He was risking it!
Just my.opinion but he was not thinking anything but block hamilton and if he got hit then hamilton would be worse off as he was in theory behind hitting him.
I'm curious too I think Max was just being Max and pushing as far as he could irrespective if he would get a penalty. I think he just sees it as trying to maintain his position no matter what and everyone knows he is 'happy' to crash if it doesn't work. I think he just sees his aggression as how he improves or maintains his position! He just has a sort of do or die (not that I am saying he wishes to die) he will still stop at nothing to gain or maintain his position. I still think he needs to grow up and realise that not every battle is worth winning and sometimes the longer game is the best way.
If there is a review and a retrospective 5 second penalty it would elevate Bottas to 2nd, a 6 poimt swing on the constructors and 3 point on the Drivers. I think I read the suggestion that Totto was going to the FIA on the BBC website. In hindsight, knowing the accuracy of the BBC, it might have been George Russell lodging a complaint against himself
Imo verstappen slowed down after cos bottas against 3.5 seconds min on him and he could have cut that possibility off so itd be verstappen own fault. But it's been dealt with by stewards.so any after the fact stuff would just end up tit for tat. Toto wolff can go where he likes but he is looking worse and worse. Itll just end with a formal protest of Mercedes new engine by red bull. The biggest irony now would be a turbo blowing as the parts not changed. This needs settling on the track. Verstappen needs a win and 2 2nds. Hamilton needs 3 wins and one favour from bottas. I will presume at each track perez will be sacrificed to take fastest lap if needed to block that. It's about racing to the finish and not winning it in the shady back rooms.
If there is new evidence, as in Silverstone, although there was no new evidence on that ocassion, I believe there is a right of challenge.
Yeah there has to be new info and you have to assume the stewards actually did the job to actually look at the evidence. There is no contact in the end.
The stewards have specifically said they didn't have the forward facing camera footage available, so once that's out that would definitely be new evidence. Thing is would Mercedes try it, they've come out of Brazil with momentum and a greatly increased fan backing, would they risk that?
The stewards did not see any cockpit view of Max but they could have seen steering data? So video footage could be new? That said I think if it does get reviewed then a grid penalty should be worst case. I really think that the rules need to be clarified to all the drivers in the pre race briefing. So they all know what is acceptable and what isn't. It makes it a bit silly when in one race not leaving space gets you a penalty and then driving your car off the track to persuade your competitor to go even further off track to avoid a collision is acceptable. I just want consistency in the application of the rules.
They can see everything, every turn and every throttle move, every telemetry signal. If they want to. I think a panel of stewards who travel with the show would be better but I can only assume they can see the data and reach conclusions. In the end I can also recall hamilton bullying team mates like bottas and Rosberg off tracks with no issue and rosberg getting angry enough to push back and win so imo its dog eat dog on track so a big of squeezing is fine by me. I'd like the same stewards cover the races just like the same race director etc etc. Its random who you get frankly.
