With such a fast car why couldn’t he get past Russell during the early laps?

So the constructor gap is down to 30. Unless red bull cone with major upgrades they have lost the constructors

Their only consolation is ferrari don't look strong enough to take 2nd too. 64 points is a lot and required a dnf or two for the brat

In the main actual title.fans actually care about norris is now exactly 70 points down or 3 full race wins with 3 brat dnfs

    9 races and 3 sprints.

I think norris can do it but he needs piastri to get up with the brat and take points away.

Ideally they'd want red bull to be swallowed up by Ferrari at the Italian GP too.

Consistency is now key. 2nd place is enough for thr brat if he can consistently deliver it.

One bad quali though. That's all it will really take.

Cos he had the same tyres and wasn't aggressive enough.

Same tyre wear and cursed about in drs range.

Le clerc only started nibbling after nearly 20 laps of a drs tow as well.

Real lack of agression from both imo

Once there was a tyre differentical piastri sailed by but the delay in pitting put him off the podium and it was a real blunder by maccas again.

Thry should actually have gone the second the gap opened but they let ferrari and Russell stop and kept limping around 1.7 to 2 seconds off the new tyre pace and locked in a bad finish.

Hope McLaren don't fall 7pts short in the drivers title if Lando can mount a real challenge.

Lost in all of this is a tip of the hat to Max.

I’m not a fan, he can be incredibly annoying, but yet again he’s churned out an excellent result. The 20 seconds ultimately is only 8 points deficit in real terms. So he’s been hammered, but only hammered into second.

His consistency is highly impressive and that’s why I think his lead is enough to see him home for the Championship, especially if Red Bull can find their own upgrades too.

What brilliant pace from McLaren though - and possibly a little bit more to come too still. So delighted for that team having had to sit and suffer for a long time.

    The problem.was nobody pushed him.

Russell just sat in 3rd not stretching himself at all or his tyres and ended up just going backwards to the point where mercs gambled (and failed)

As expected their car failed once the rain went away and track was rubbered in.

Piastri sat behind Russell flirting and never really getting into drs or having a go.

Le clerc sat consistently 0.5 seconds behind piastri for nearly 20 laps before having a real go.

Then they all pitted where they would pit anyway so I sincerely doubt they used all the tyres up given piastri then stretched it for far top long afterwards.

After that initial pit stop verstappen was driven away from by norris bit nobody seems.willing to chase for 2nd

Le clerc sat again. And piastri had lost so much time that he used his fresh tyres up passing out cars he shouldn't have been behind before parking behind le.clerc. he had one go then fell off it.

There seems to be really very low deg and the teams had no bother doing what they did and could have gone a different way so the tyres for the weekend were too durable.

It's feeling increasingly reminiscent of 2009. The dominance is over, but instead of one rival closing the leader down, everyone is taking it in turns to win races.

The points totals across Max's winless run since Austria tell quite a story. Piastri is the only one to make up significant ground and he was way too far back to begin with (plus he was poor this weekend)

Im not sure it’s just the money .

I believe Williams are in quite a healthy position in money terms , but it doesn’t matter how much money you have , because the spending cap means you can’t spend it .
