I think so... BUT... If Shearer went into Man Utd and saved them, I think I'd be struggling to pass any credit on to him It's just a rivalry thing.
It all started when HE opened his mouth and accused us of wanting him sacked because he was a Geordie. Thousands of us attending the games at the SOL every week are Geordies, so he can **** right off. As for the league position, that was false as ****. We only got 5 more points that season than the one we have just finished. We were in the bottom half all season and then on the last game of the season, every game went in our favour and we jumped up the table about 4 places into 10th, with 44 points. Peter Reid had us finishing higher than Bruce.
He gets stuck simple for implying he was sacked for being a Geordie, it simply isn't true. He was accepted and for a while very highly thought of by most, being born on Tyneside had no bearing on his failings, he left with most saying 'didn't do too bad a job, far as he could take us', but he played the 'up the road' victim card, which was bullshit.
Oh he started the comments? Fair enough I did think it was odd people hold him in such disdain around here. Hadn't realised Reid had you finishing higher - playing better certainly. There's often a lot of movement around midtable in the last few weeks where some teams just switch off so someone suddenly finishes a few places higher or lower than you were expecting - but you end up where you deserve!
Well yeah there's a statue outside your ground that suggests links to Newcastle are hardly terminal to acceptance.
Actually last game the Toon were 3-0 up v WBA and managed to draw 3-3, only reason we got 10th. It was a good team he built but he threw so many points away defending a 1-0 rather than killing games off, when we were a real threat to anyone going forward. That was his failing, not his place of birth.
If I looked like the lady in my avatar you wouldn't see me around here, i would spend all day in the bath tbh.
That's fair enough, mate. I always agree with that myself, so we did deserve 10th, but it was a very poor season, for us to finish there with that amount of points. Peter Reid had us pushing 60 points, two season in a row. We finished 7th both seasons.
Yep, that and the fact 15-20k of our regular fan base are Geordies, and proudly class themselves as such.
See. Nobody can say a bad word about him. Obviously you're more qualified to comment because you support them, so let's just move on. I'm not arguing the toss with a lad I get on with on here, over a chump I have no respect for in the football world.
Oh there's bad words Tel, believe me he had many shortcomings and failings as a chairman. It's a stone wall fact though that he saved the club from ruin and that, as well as his time as a player, will always leave him in the plus with us.
Don't talk about me Gordon, like some ****ing worm who has no spine, talk TO me if you've an issue with anything I've got to say. I had the respect for you to do as you asked of me, I'm happy to reverse all of that if you try and mug me off hiding behind your buddy.
That's fine mate, never denied that. Obviously he was doing a grand job, I know **** all, that's why he got sacked.
He didn't though, there was a set plan in place for him to leave as Ellis settled into the club. He was a poor chairman as he had no grasp in finances, but overall his contribution to both club and city of Sunderland were magnificent.
I have always thought of Niall Quinn as being quite harmless. Why the lack of respect? Apologies if you have already explained this a dozen times but I may have missed it. Just curious that's all.
