Girvan it might well be not be meant to offend the actual irish- but it does Like some songs sang by Celtic fans that reference the IRA (the ones you call terrorist supporting songs) dont actually refer to the terrorist IRA but indeed refer to those who fought freedom for Ireland (well part of it) fact is people may hear it and interpret it differently than you intended.....so it shouldnt be sung - and i refer to our song book in this issue too. And also the so called plastics - why do they bother you? If they see afinity with ireland depite being unable to point to ireland on a globe, so what???
No not everything that offends should be banned. And i agree on the easily offended. The uk is fast becoming very easily offended. However in this day and age when you know the songs could get your club in trouble then why cling to it? Im a celtic fan and very proud republican. You'll not hear me sing an IRA song at a game. (the song book on my ipod is a different story mind) Its just not needed. Enjoy the football for what it is and leave all the other ****e that shames both our clubs behind. With regard to the plastics i think you'll fnd deep down they could also be referred to as neds......there are neds on the rangers side that cling to NI loyalist links too- they amuse me and make me cringe - just as the glaswegian provos on our side do too - just dont become obsessed by them...they are equally nedish on both sides
A point many miss... There are many who support Celtic that I do not want associated with. I'm sure there are many that Rangers fans see at Ibrox supporting their team that they wouldn't want to associte with either. Just turn on the TV news and watch them interview some cretin when there is new manager/player etc
same as the unionists in northern ireland then if you want to be part of a union **** off out of ireland
Tomorrow's headlines: Justiciary Appeal Court Decision thrown out. Despite Lord Carloway ruling the Famine Song was Racist, that decision has been set aside by the "Super Duper Court on European Human Rights for fans who like to sing racist songs". In a shock move, these "Fans" with no legal training whatsoever, took issue with Lord Carloway's ruling because they beleived that "Freedom of Speech" rights overrule the normal rules of justice in this case. Several members of the Not606 Forum argued successfully (which does not say a lot for the legal nous of Donald Findlay QC) that the Famine song is not in fact "racist" because it's only meant to be "sarcastic".
