.. Just to be clear on 'style': Personally I like that he's a 'colourful' character which made the game more interesting. I also admire his achievements (his record speaks for itself). I do NOT like his style of football on the pitch. However, I'd have us playing it tomorrow if it meant that I'd get to see Bristol City compete in the Premier League just ONCE before I shuffle off.........
I don't think that Lansdown (senior) has ever been interested in what other people think even if they were better placed than he was to give an informed opinion. And that as far as I can see, has been a large part of our clubs problems for a long time.
Sorry Angelic, I think your thinking off the mark. He does /is interested in what others say there is a history of being advised by MA for a starter ... he pulled all the strings[MA] to protect himself. He [MA] could see the light at the end of the tunnel fading, of his own making, and looked for another job! SL himself stated that the demise/ sacking/ whatever of DH was maybe a bit of a knee jerk, even so bringing in NP WAS CONTARY TO HIS LINE OF THINKING ... CONTINUITY! .. Strange how as things were prior to the point of DH 's dismissal/ NP's engagement we could have still have been in the championship at end of 20/21 season bearin in mind NP PICKED UP JUST 5-6 POINTS! FROM 39? You cannot change the past, and the record / history books show without doubt that all the good done /position we achieved to Feb 2020 has evaporated into thin air ........... will we get to prem in next 5 years I do not think so .... we have lost the continuity, we have lost the team comerarderie [ [gone all passive ] for passive you could swap for submissive, worried about doing anything wrong... brought on 3 subs and stated they were crap !!!! thats AS /HNM/ ZV ... FIRST 2 PRAISED in previous games! ... Is NP actually got his mind on the job in hand ......?
The fact that MA wasn't managed or kept in check by the owner speaks volumes as to how loosely and 'hands off' the club has been run. The history books will also say that the owner interfered with transfers (David James), appointed Managers that clearly didn't want the job to start with (Steve Coppell), and possibly didn't back some of his Managers enough with money when we were exceedingly well placed for promotion from the Championship, and these days he appears seems to have little or no appetite for actually ever reaching the Premiership. Jon Lansdown doesn't appear interested and so on and so forth. Will we get to the Prem in the next 5 years ? I don't think we have a cat in hells chance personally and relegation is a much more likely outcome. Has Nige lost interest and become disillusioned having walked into club sporting a Premiership stadium with a billionaire owner, before the actual reality of the task in hand and the limited options and funds available to him sank in ? Very possibly. Time and events to come will tell.
Angelic, NP confirmed this week we have players of quality, not short on the basics and technically good... so what is wrong with the results ... is CF spending his time shouting at the players throughout the game the fault, is he putting them off. I've seen a few games this season, maybe 8 or 9, but only been to one.... Saturdays is restrictive unfortunately ... Wasnt SL in charge at time of David James et al ..... sort of had JL's job pre MA? ..... He stood down to concentrate on Bristol sport / LongAshston / stadium /training ground/ and on going plans ... he stepped up as "being the owner" Retired full time from HL ... CASHED in a big wadge and got BCFC up to a premier ground size condition [ pre covid were we not going to get international game? ] I cant knock the bloke, he has had a very successful career as a business owner, used to delegating ...bit like AS HAS A TEAM OR TEAMS WORKING UNDER HIM to do the business and report back. Said it a few times when DH event happened he did say "maybe it was a wrong move" ..in so many words ...! NP [ AND HAS STATED IT TO BE SO ] has been fully aware of the conditins he needs to work in. He accepted the challenge, said we had some fine players, quality players and he needed a couple windows to tweak, but was fully aware money may be tight, or even non existent. Simpson was rumoured to be on £15k a week [NP ex mate ] thats something like £100k a game played in! Thats like a third of the gate money for each game he played in.....!!!! King is/was another dead beat 43 games since 2017 just 5 for us reputed to be on £12k a week? so far almost £2m in wages for 13 appearances certainly less than the 1170 minutes they should have played! Matty James .. GETTING a bit of a run after injury ... so 1 out of 3 old mates, managed 70 games since 2017 14 in premier league..... 21 out of 41 for us so we have managed 34 appearances [ not by a long chalk 34 x 90 minutes ] at a cost of circa £2.5m. I know we have other players who get paid and dont do the minutes, and some have had injuries . but 3 end of career players were supposed to be our "backbone of experience2
