I'm very much for this TOM. The Trust has been trying to reach out to the OSC for over a year now, and has been constantly rebuffed when even a simple meeting is suggested. Perhaps you could use your influence to change this OSC position, as a precursor to such a conference.
Should it not be The Trust's members being canvassed for their opinions on the future direction, aims & objectives of the Trust? If posters on here wish to express an opinion on the Trust's direction my suggestion would be that, in the first instance, they pay their subs & join the Trust. If the Trust committee don't agree could one of the committee explain the benefit of joining the Trust if non members & potential non City supporters are having a say in the Trust's aims, direction & objectives.
Ahh I used to love that, was my only way of following the team last time we were in the Championship.
Though I'm aware of the current arrangement and the club's desire to get out of it and bring everything in house, I still think it's worth exploring the chances of doing something earlier, Fulham obviously have.
As a group set up to represent Hull City fans, I think it's useful that we canvas the opinions of all fans and consult as much as possible. As a membership organisation, it's only the memers who can ultimately decide if any of these suggestions are actually adopted as aims and objectives of the trust and hopefully these discussions will encourage more to join.
Personally, I think this is a great idea, the only issue is the OSC and Tigers Trust would need the blessing of the club, but framed in the way suggested I don't think this would necessarily be an issue.
That was brilliant. I think with the amount of O/S fans the club now has, something should be done to facilitate their following of the team beyond just twitter updates. I understand that there's TigerPlayer, but there should be a free ability to listen to local radio.
I think it's also worth pointing out that it's not that different to the trust's position with the club. The Trust isn't a member of the Hull City board, but wants to influence how the club is run in a positive way, but the club have the ultimate say. This would hopefully lead to more or at least happier Hull City Supporters. Getting the views of non-members increases the pool for ideas and shows by example how being inclusive rather then exclusive can benefit an organisation. I think it's worth making it clear that suggestions on here are just that, they're not demands, and the final decision on what happens with those suggestions has to be down to the members. I reckon it could encourage non members with a particular skill set to offer their services for specific occasions.
Hi Ben. It's a fair point. Shareholders will be canvassed directly through the weekly newsletter which should come out today. And any collective decisions on what the Trust includes in its action plan that need to be made by members (i.e. decisions that the Board needs specific shareholder support for) will of course only be made by shareholders through a ballot. At this stage we are collecting ideas (and addressing a few comments as we go along, where matters have already been explored and/or answered). We feel that all City Supporters can contribute good ideas at this stage, members and non-members alike. But the decisions on what we adopt - that still rests with the Board and the membership. Hope that helps.
My post is a reflection of my own personal view and is not as far as I know (because I have not discussed it) one that is shared by others. As I posted, its a thought for the future, who knows where we will be as a club in terms of ownership and relationships. In my opinion it should be a goal of all organisations to work with each other for the benefit of the supporters and community. The fact is that the number of supporters who are actively involved in the running of the supporter groups, is relatively small and most are known to each other to some degree. In the past, differences may not have been so openly or easily displayed. Trust between individuals is difficult to build up with the speed of the internet. OLM is quite right the OSC and Tigers Trust do have to protect and maintain their relationships with the club. If an independent observer, happened to look back at the last 30 or so years of supporter involvement in Hull City, would they see opportunities missed? Should the same opportunities present themselves again, it is important that they are seized.
The groups exist for different reasons. There seems little point in the groups competing with each other for the same functions, I think they could compliment each other, and joint meetings could broaden discussions by seeing things from new perspectives, with each taking care of their own 'specialisms', but all heading for the same common goal.
Do you not get abused by all your Man U, Chelsea, Liverpool etc supporting mates for staying up all night to listen to a 2nd division game on the radio?
Seems like a great idea. Would the Football Supporters Federation and/or Supporters Direct be a route forward for a conference?
Some sort of half time entertainment wouldn't go a miss. The competition with the giant inflatable footballs was good fun. Other clubs have different things. Villa had the challenge of kicking the ball from the by-line to the half way line onto a target whereas Leicester invited a Sunday League kids team to have a relay race around the ring - maybe a mini 5 a side game or penalty shoot out. Or like others said - cheerleaders, dance troupes, musical artists. It's just something to watch for those who don't risk the concourse at half time.
