I don't do FA Cup anyway..But talk of boycotts is a bit daft...Doesn't help the team one bit...But its a free country...
If you want thanking for supporting your football club then I think you are supporting them for the wrong reasons.
It's not a financial protest, gate receipts are a fraction of income for Hull City, it's more a physical protest.
Calling for a boycott of a game that will likely be poorly supported anyhow doesn't seem like a great idea to me. Unless those boycotting turned up outside to protest of course. Our gates are falling anyhow, due to apathy and anger, there needs to be something done with the anger that's demonstrable.
I agree about turning up to protest, but not at the ground. Direct & disrupt, straight to Allam Towers & disrupt his & his neighbour's Saturday afternoon. Stage the support outside his house. Turn up early & support the team, loud & proud for the duration. Repeat for every game.
My protesting days are over. Like I said, been there, done it and worn the T shirt out. I might be old school but when we were protesting our dream was to be where we are today. Read the Tigers 2000 statement of intent sometime. Its an education. Every point was achieved by a club and fans who at the time were at the very bottom of the Football League ladder. I don't like or agree with the way the club is being run at present but I go to support the team like I have done all my life. I don't buy anything with the current club badge on it and I will not do so until the clubs name re-appears on club merchandise. I can understand why some fans are staying away but then again I think a lot more use the current situation as an excuse not to attend games.
There are 32 FAC3 games vying for media attention, the BBC are willing an 'upset' and a great romantic story to focus on, there will be negligible national media attention on our game regardless of how many don't attend. It just doesn't fit the bill of interesting cup tie. We've all seen the John Oxley incident and how it gives the media something to run with. Empty seats is neither news nor interesting. The media thrive on pictures and incidents, not 'slow burn' stories. If I were involved with the HCST, I would be think of ways to groom the media. Identify sympathetic or local journalists and engage them with news, pictures and updates. People Like Arindam Rej, Martin Samuels, Angus Young, Damian Johnson, Guy Mowbray, David Conn, Mark Chapman,...hell even Kevin Kilbane, Rosie Millard. Treat them with respect and intelligence, don't hector them, look to see things from their angle: they might need a story, an update, photos etc. These are the people who hold the keys and who wield the power. There are some media savvy people in HCST and associates, surely some of them are capable of forging useful media connections with some of the above people?
You clearly have been there and done it, but some people weren't and feel the need to protest in some way (and I suspect there were people critisising your protests at the time) Whichever way you look at it if everyone's protest now was to attend but not to buy merchandise then it would be completely unnoticed I do actually agree in general about continuing to support the team through protests, and actually my preference in general would be loud and vocal protests in the ground, and loud and vocal, support for the team. On this occasion I think boycotting one game is justified, and while I would personally have gone for a boycott for Man City I think this at least gives a route for some people to feel they have done something (and I agree that lots wouldn't have gone anyway) Not perfect, but there you go
I'm in, though I don't do FA cup games anyway. It'd have to be ridiculously low to get noticed, and hopefully it will.
That's my only reservation regards this game, even without a protest its going to be a low gate game, which will probably have less impact if any, I think its got to be some sort of peaceful protest at a live sky broadcast to catch the attention of the national media
At least the Swansea game will affect the Allams pockets - season card holders boycotting a game that they have already paid for will just be a laugh for the Allams
You realise that City fans raised over £1,000 for charity only a couple of months ago as part of a protest?
It's not necessarily a protest at all in the usual sense. The time for trying to convince the Allams they are wrong is long ago. This is all about publicity. We don't know if it will work, but we'll do everything we can to make it a success and if it still doesn't get attention then we'll move on and we'll have made some money for a good cause.
This is a good game to start on. It would be impossible to boycott the Man Utd game due to the number of plastics that would go and getting those that are still going to boycott a league game would also be very difficult given people have already paid for their ticket. A good few thousand are effectively already boycotting every week going on our crowd numbers but the outside world just views us as having poor support, clearly not true. Choosing this game is sensible as it makes it easy for people to support - you don't have to do anything other than donate your ticket money (or any amount you can afford) to a good local cause. Of course it won't have as much of an impact as a Premier League game but that just isn't going to happen. 13 years ago in Division 3 this game had to be delayed because too many people turned up to watch it. Now, with both teams in the Premier League they've already closed 40% of the ground before tickets have gone on sale. If it can highlight to the footballing world and media just a little bit what is going wrong with our club then its a positive thing to do. It needs as many fans as possible to support it as it is clear change is needed. It's better to try do something than nothing at all. This is the biggest call there has been so far for a boycott so fans are getting what they wanted - now lets get behind it.
The problem is that those who pay membership will not be willing to pay as much as they do and miss a game. With the cup game, they've not already paid for it.
Peacefully disrupt a live sky game and your going to have a lot of pissed off people at the PL and sky t.v. especially as it seams that the toxic two only appear to talk to sky, even more embarrassing for the toxic two.
