Ben Arfa was good but imo he doesn't do enough to deserve 90 mins of football ... if I was Pardew I'd start Shola and give Benny 45 mins in the second half.

For once I agree with Tash's rating ...

    Nice summary.

    My ratings:

Krul- 7- Great save from the free kick but little else to do because our defence was so solid. Poor kicking.

Simpson- 6.5- Decent. Got skinned a few times by Petrov, but he won't be the first or last.

Willo- 8- Very assured return. Good to see him back!!

Colo- 8- tbf he was only dealing with David N'Gog but still! Great game, good bounce back after the WBA shambles.

Raylor- 6- ****e distribution, but a decent first half free-kick and a good cut back for HBA's goal redeems him.

Obertan- 5.5- 2 out of 5 for the first half. 3.5 out of 5 for the second. Came to life after we scored and looked more confident! That's what we like to see Ober!!!

Cabaye- 6.5- Game passed him by in the first half because we were playing hoofball. However, he combatted the strongest area of their team in Reo-Coker and Mark Davies with some tenacious, ball-winning midfield play. Good to see him back. :)

Tiote- 6.5- A real mixed bag. BUT, (borrowing the old tash phrase), he was starting to rape their tired midfield at the end. That bodes well for the next game against Liverpool, their midfield is weakened without Lucas....

Jonas- 6- Really flattered to deceive. Still can't take players on, but I still think his passing and tracking back was good. Magnificent workrate, but didn't do much with the ball.

Best- 3- I used to like Best, but I can't really give him a higher mark than this! Be honest, what did he do? He wasted our best chances and looked lazy turning on the ball, constantly losing possession. Maybe some time off the bench will do him some good?

Ba- 7.5- Was matched up in a duel against Gary Cahill throughout the afternoon. And he won hands down. Classy on the ball (although sometimes his first touch was lacking) and clinically got in front of the most overrated defender in England to turn in our second. What a legend!

    SUBS

Ben Arfa- 7- Finally made the difference with a world class finish. When Raylor pulled it back behind him I was about to get pissed off, but wow, what a finish! Lost the ball a couple of times, but was still better at keeping the ball in this game.

    Shola- n/a- Who's Shola?

Perch- n/a- pointless Pardew substitution... (PPS?)

VERDICT: We won this game because we didn't let them get a look in (from open play) around our penalty box. That was due partly to David N'Gog, but also was helped by a classy performance from our centre backs!

So for me, motm has to go to Colocinni and Williamson as a joint award.

    Great win!!!

    HTL!!!! <ale>

I thought our play in the first 60mins for woeful, so I couldn't give anyone but Colo and Willo above a 6 for that, after that I thought that Obertan was our best player.

I think you have been extremely harsh on Obertan, for once he ran at his opposition and actually looked like a threat. In the first half our wingers were'nt involved in the game so its hard to rate someone who hasn't got the ball.

All in all once we got the goal we looked a lot more confident. It was a great flick from Raylor to start it and a good ball in. It was also good technique from the goal. So for 60mins the entire game was bad, then we woke up and deserved the 3 points.

I don't think he looked uninterested. His first half performance was probably due to the fact that he's coming back from an injury that kept him out for 2 months and is lacking match fitness? He really improved in the last 30 mins as well, give him a chance!

Fair enough. I think his "laziness" on the ball is due to not being match fit though.

Ok I know that I seem quite harsh on Ben Arfa even if he's got an assist and a goal in 2 appearances. But imo coming on a sub is easier than playing a full 90 mins if you see what I mean... Even Ngog seemed like a world beater when he came on as a sub and scored ... Ben Arfa isn't ready for 90 mins but that woeful display by Best made him look real good ...

Because we don't have productive wingers ... Our only solution at the moment is either the long ball or the counter attack ....

Strongly disagree there , Shola is too lazy and is definitely not good enough for the Premier League. Ben Arfa just behind Ba connecting midfield and attack is our best way of producing good football and it definitely proved so today.

Shola may have an amazing 10 minutes like he did at Spurs but more often than not he struggles to keep his balance and do something productive with the ball.
