Not everything is about pace. this isn't FIFA ultimate team, you don't need the fastest players. We have Theo and Gervinho, 2 quick players, and thats not worked too well.
Have you seen him play? He is strong and quite quick. Yes he's not as quick as the likes of Walcott, but who is. Also, he may have been a bargain, but he most certainly wasn't bought from the bucket. Trust me, he will shine come next season. He was a very good buy and is realistically valued at around £20m-£25m. He has good technical skill, pace and a wicked left foot.
You are dreaming lazarus20000 He is a carthorse. You can get away with it in Germany & International Football where the pace is much slower, but not The Premier League. If he was 'Realistically valued at around £20-£25m', he would have been sold for that, and not to AFC! Good shot, takes up good positions, will score no more that 10 League Goals, happy to have a bet with you if you want.
Pace isn't in itself enough. But it is the most desirable asset in the current thinking of Coaches. And as a Forward in the Premier League, there are very few examples of high scoring Forwards without it. For Podolski, see Bendtner.
If a Player from a soon to be relegated team, in the final year of his Contract, is not a Bargain Bucket signing, I don't know what is!
I think the fact he's a global footballing superstar, and a german international with over 80 caps means he isn't bargain basement. The fact is, without him, Koln would have been relegated far sooner.
Everton were close to relegation before Rooney came along. He saved them and the rest is history. now refer to Poodles.
This, He is very similar in his style of play to Nasri although I believe Nasri is a better all round player than him and is physically stronger the reported price tag for him is ridicules considering we got Nasri for around 12 Million.
Shwan - so what if a player fails at other clubs Veron failed at Man U as did the little Uruguayan. Veron failed at Chelsea also - as did Shevchenko and a plethora of other stars that went to Chelsea. Begkamp failed at Inter - but he was one of the best players in the world and we all know what became of Thierry after the failed at Juventus As for David Schofield - dude, what are you talking about ? Who needs pace in the Premier League ? The PL top 100 scorers: Alan Shearer - not particularly fast, Robbie Fowler, Frank Lampard, Teddy Sheringham - from the top 10 of all time PL scorers. Lets look at Golden boot winners (recent winners first): RVP (not especially fast), Berbatov (not fast at all), Tevez (not especially fast), then we jump to RVN and Kevin Phillips. 4 winners (Tevez and Berbatov joint that year) from the past 11 years were not what you would call blessed with big pace.
