Just seen this on twitter:

"Sad to hear the news of Hay List who has undergone surgery for colic at Randwick Equine Centre. Hope he pulls through ok and recovers."

The source is not, as far as I know, connected to the horse, but the detail seems fairly specific so I think it must be genuine. I have no idea whatsoever about such issues, anyone with more knowledge know how long that might put him out of action for?

I hope it's nothing too serious.
 
It seems the horse has suffered from colic for years Danish. He was operated on in 2007 for the same problem, and in 2011 had another bout. He was rushed to the clinic yesterday after a severe attack. It's said that Hay List stood after the operation and hopefully will make a full recovery. He will be turned out though. Fingers crossed for the big bloke.

While on the subject, a real tragedy struck the Greg Eurell stable yesterday when their stable star, Cox Plate winning filly Pinker Pinker died while under routine veterinary care. Upon receipt of a standard injection of Pentazan, a joint lubricant, Pinker Pinker suffered a suspected anaphylactic shock causing her to drop dead on the spot.

Crikey, that's awful. Horribly unlucky. Thanks for the info re Hay List, I hope he comes out of it ok.
 
hope he gets well. although in the shadow of black cav, hay list is top class in his own right.
 
I think Hay List looked a bit jaded to be honest, probably up too long, and his Newmarket Handicap win was a flat to the boards affair. I think that run finished him this season. That said, the Foxwedge people have been have been talking up the horse for quite a while now. I wasn't so sure about him though, but his Newmarket run was a cracker, then his win at the Valley was was a top effort. I think he's the real deal. Hay List, once he's freshened and brought back later in the year, will probably still be an awesome weapon though.
 
Cync, being in England i don't get to see much of your Aussie racing. But have been watching Black Caviar for the last couple of years and Hay List always seemed to be a clear second best to her in the races they met. The owners must be very unluck to be around at the same time. I haven't heard much about Foxwedge. When is it next due to run? i will try and watch it. Any plans for him? to come over for Ascot?
 
Hawk, Foxwedge has been big in the eyes of the stable since they first threw a saddle on him, but didn't quite show it on the track. It wasn't until he returned as a 3yo (this season) that he began to put it together. He really started to fire when they took him to Melbourne in Feb for the G1 Lightning where he finished 4th in a small field behind Black Caviar and Hay List, beaten just under 4L. He then lined up in the Premier sprint in the country, the G1 Newmarket at Flemington, and ran a very nice 3rd to Hay List, this time only 2L away. He was getting to the line better than anything. At his last start, he won the G1 William Reid at the Valley. The link below is the that win.

I had seen that race before cyc but it really is impressive. He absolutely storms past Haylist on the straight after a tricky bend.
 
more sad news. THE career of star sprinter Hay List is in the balance with the triple Group 1 winner battling a knee injury.

Hay List, who had been considered a Royal Ascot possible, suffered the injury after undergoing emergency surgery last Friday for colic.

Scans on the injured knee will be sent overseas for analysis with trainer John McNair and the Davenport family who own Hay List saying it was not necessarily the end of the six-year-old's career.

The sprinter has a history of legproblems and injuries over the past few years but has overcome those to rise through the sprinting ranks in the eastern states after doing his early racing in Perth.

As well as winning three Group 1 races, Hay List has racked up four seconds at the top level behind Black Caviar.

He got his moment in the sun this autumn when he carried a hefty 58.5kg to win the Newmarket Handicap at Flemington last month.

He had some problems with a foot abscess leading up to his most recent start when he was beaten by three-year-old Foxwedge in the William Reid Stakes.

Hay List has won 15 of his 23 starts and run second on six occasions, earning more than AUS $2.5 million.
