Spoke with Paul Heaton several times and been in his company. Decent bloke, no edge or up-his-own-arse attitude either. Once offered to sort out a gang of us with tickets and back stage passes when we went to see The South in Dublin, without being asked, actually we never took him up on it because we already had the tickets and were all a bit worse for wear to go back stage afterwards. But the offer was there.
Knew his football too, respected big time by Sheffield Utd lads and not a bad player himself. I like the fella, he can sing a bit too.

In there for a few pints and pool after 5 a side then off to chinky (soz to offend anyone, was just the colloquial term back in the day) for a special fried rice.

I don't think it was ever a hotel. It's not actually all that old, being built in about 1930 to look Tudor.

Here it is before that. It was a bit isolated on the turnpike, with Newland Village being across the swamp to the west, and not much south east until you got to Sculcoates Village, which was pretty much where tanyard is, with the Parish running in to town.

The rest of the stuff around it wasn't built until 1900, before that it was a cricket pitch. The pitch was also used by football and rugby team, including some that merged to become City and HKR.

Princes Road/Queens Road was the Hull boundary, with a bridge to where the Police box was on the 'border'.

Queens was originally built with a piggery, and later a bowling green in what's now the car park, with St John's having a chicken run.

Mate of mine went to a get together one time in Sheffield before one of his gigs, said it was all Sheff Utd's top lads there....all very civilized though, they had to sit round in a circle and introduce them selves.

My memories of Haworth Arms age 14/15
    Upstairs
    Very Early 1970s
Just a waft of smoke and you would be stoned
    Hippy's , Bikers A Token Skinhead.
Strange light shows on the walls
LSD trips , Ray Harvey in his pimp coat and Floyd the first heroin addict I knew of.
