Good game yesterday, but we were punished for missing 3 gilt edged chances in the first half. We have to be more clinical. They had the lions share of the possession, but we created the best chances. Could have levelled it at the end, but Brianna McPartlin didn't get enough on her header and it sneaked wide. On a positive note, I'm pleased that we've signed McPartlin, because she looks like a unit and we look weak in midfield. Good to see Keira Ramshaw walking without crutches and Katy Watson looks a prospect. It would be nice to see her playing in and around Liz Ejupi, who is good in the air and holds the ball up well. Hopefully Neve Herron will be back soon too following her eye injury. OaU
I wonder if our women's team have any good big strikers and midfielders, they couldn't do any worse than the present mens team? Jill Scott is getting on a bit, but she never taken any crap from anyone on the field, whilst dishing a fair bit out. Her and 09 a canny CM pairing.
It could've been and should've been 6. We looked dangerous every time we attacked, but were very wasteful in front of goal. Neve Herron was outstanding and Katy Watson looks a cracking prospect. We've got a lot of young players in our side and it was noticeable how good Abby Holmes was at talking them through the game. Up to 9th now, with Sheffield Utd up next at home. Win our home games and we'll not be far from mid-table. Well done Lasses!
Hard fought 1-1 draw with Sheffield United yesterday. They didn't look like a team near the bottom of the league. They were every bit as good as Southampton, who were in third. We were second best during the first half and could have gone in more than just 1-0 down. For me, the introduction of Liz Ejupi at half time changed the game. At last we had someone who could hold the ball up and bring others into play. Within 5 minutes of coming on, we had sprung their offside trap twice and it was no surprise when Ejupi controlled the ball and laid on a pass to the onrushing Abby Joice, who outpaced the defence, even though one of them tried to bring her down, and finished with aplomb. The ladies side has done remarkably well this season, given long term injuries to Towers, Griffiths, Mullen and Ramshaw and we have the base for a decent side next year, with a few additions. A back 4 of Holmes, Towers, Westrup and Griffiths looks a solid one. Faye Mullen, Megan Beer and Grace McCatty can provide decent cover. Having followed the Ladies team for quite a few years, I think Jess Brown is better as a full back than her current position on the right of the front three. At the moment, the midfield looks weak and are often outmuscled by the opposition, but we have the players to play there when the injuries are cleared up. When Abby Towers returns to the defence, that should leave the door open for Neve Herron to move into the midfield alongside Emma Kelly and Keira Ramshaw. That would be an excellent midfield and Dani Brown is a capable deputy. I haven't seen enough of McPartlin to judge, but i was surprised she was not introduced yesterday, to give us more of a physical presence in the middle of the park. As yesterday showed, Abby Joice is a bit small for playing in the midfield and would be better utilised out wide, playing off Liz Ejupi, with Emily Scarr and Katy Watson fighting for the third spot up front. Hopefully, we can notch another 2-3 wins before the end of the season, then look to push on next year.
Absolutely top drawer mate. Good on the ball, gets stuck in and has an eye for a goal. I've watched her since she first broke in to the side and she has developed brilliantly. We had 2 England U17 internationals in Herron and Brown, and Brown looked the better of the 2 at the time, but Neve has pushed on to a different level.
Just seen that today's game is live on Charlton's website 0-1 with 30 mins to go https://www.charltonafc.com/video/live
FT 2-2 They should have won easily, always in control except for those 2 minutes of complete madness.
