Don't judge him on the past, judge him on the present.

The danger is though AB that you lull yourself into a false sense of security if you only judge when they are in form. I think you have to use both past and present.

Tash I'm with you on this. I am very happy with his form. The only thing that does get right on my wick is when he hoofs it back to the opposition putting undue pressure back on him. Improve on his distribution and he is very good back up. He doesnt give me kittens like watching Taylor.

One of my favourite Newcastle players, his heart and desire are top notch.

Can agree he makes some silly mistakes, sometimes, and technically had a poor time last season. But I have a real soft spot for him. Also agree with Tash's point that really we don't judge him on what our opposition has, we more judge him on what we would prefer to have. Which is completely fair. But looking at the other teams in the league, I honestly don't see how he is far worse than any others around us and I think any other prem team (around us) would like to have him in the squad. (Bar the top 6 ofc!).

A separate point, am I the only one who believes that Saylor wouldn't have a hope in hell of getting into the first team if it wasn't for his Geordie roots? While I am probably at odds here, I really do not rate the guy at all. His comments towards Sunderland before the derby last season did it for me, I'm happy he's out of the squad. Anyone agree? If not. Do not skin me alive <ok>

I rate Saylor, but not as top class. On his best form he was a far far better option than Willo. However how long is it since we have seen that form from him? He seems to have got worse not better in terms of rashness and concentration levels. He is still injured every 5 mins. He should be in his prime but he really needs to evaluate soon whether he will ever fulfil his potential. Its not impossible, he only take inspiration from someone like Martin Keown. He was an error prone mess until his later years. Certainly not happy to have him out of the squad but he wouldn't be my first choice at present on form - Willo would.

Saylor's fine in my book, always gives 100% and prepared to put his life on the line for the team.

Seem to have said this before, but I believe he was born in London.
