No, I'm not referring to Andy D'Urso, Sepp Blatter John Terry or targets like that. I'm talking about our own players. Young fans sitting near me in the NW were talking about actually "hating" Joe Pigott and Simon Church for being so slow. Some fans appear to hate Bradley Pritchard. McOxo, Leon Clarke, Dave Mooney and Kevin Lisbie have also had their moments. Any others?

Yes, "young (so-called) fans". Also a couple of prolific posters on here.

I'm not sure what Garth Crooks did wrong? He scored goals and seemed to give 100% every game.... is it perhaps because of his BBC TV apppearances? Or what Paul Elliott did wrong?

Why have you missed off Lee Hughes? or Mr Francis?
 
The only instance I've heard recently was the vile abuse that was directed at Carl Jenkinson in his final game for us at The Daggers. Never want to hear anything like that again.

Peter Shaw used to get some terrible stick - I remember at one Valley game, a Tannoy announcement going out urging fans to stop the barracking and obscene chanting - shameful incident.

To a lesser extent Tony Towner and Mark Aizlewood regularly got a poor reception and so did Lawrie Madden.

Worst reception I've seen given to an ex-Addick in recent years was the one given to Darren Ambrose at Birmingham City last season, some of that abuse was appalling.
 
I dont ever remember feeling actual hate for any player in particular. The nearest anyone ever got in my book was probably Pawel Abbott. I do also remember getting particularly animated over the performance of Dan Seabourne at home to Middlesborough last season, possibly the worst performance I have seen of any one in a Charlton shirt ever.

I have my blood boiling at the comments of other fans than the players and some of their opinions on the game. I always remember Jonjo Shelvey getting a lot of stick the year he was sold for all his mis-place passes in the North Lower. The more educated in footballing terms among us would realise this was because he was playing in a team simply not on his level.

While on the subject of fans, worth a mention is the pair of ladies behind me at the Blackpool game who spoke with each other about their jobs as social workers for the entirety of the first half, paused during half time, then continued for the entirety of the second.

Robbie Elliott, not Paul. Too short and unathletic for a keeper, IMO. Paul was a top class centre half who could have played for England, but for injury.

Garth Crooks came to us at the *** end of his career, and was the butt of many jokes at the times.... because of his fat butt. I think my irritation with him has actually grown over the years, as he insists of covering his 30 second weekly BBC slot on Preston v Crewe by speaking v-e-r-y s-l-o-w-l-y and describing the merits of 4-4-2 as if he had just discovered the Theory of Relativity.
 
I know Jermain Defoe gets a bit of stick every time we played West Ham or Tottenham.

I admit that I gave players like Simon Francis, Alan McCormack, Paul Benson and Pawl Abbott. I think that these players should never have been brought by he club, or even been their. Looking at our situation at the time, it was understandable this was all we could afford, and end up at our lowest point ever.

It's interesting that Simon Francis, has gone on and become very successful at Bournemouth, and had a good game against us when we played them.
 
My personal bete noir was Denis Rommedahl. He had so much ability, yet to my mind no player let down the fans or his manager more. He perfected the art of hiding, and even in reserve games you could see him looking for his marker so as to make himself unavailable when we had the ball. We also had Murphy and Ambrose in midfield, and so I suppose my other bete noir is the fans who vented their spleen on Kishishev, who had to do the dirty work.
 
The only player, past or present, I ever hated was Darren Pitcher.

Judging by the reaction to his ill advised appearance as I half time guest proved that I wasn't the only one.
 
I remember seeing Kelly Youga's confidence evaporate after repeated abuse from the North Lower.

Agree Bill. Rhomedal used to frustrate me so much as he just didn't use his ability. Same with Zheng Zhi.
 
I shouldn't think any player purposely goes out on to the pitch to perform terribly, but I do think some players sign contracts with clubs that are too big for them and, inevitably, the pressure is too much. Perhaps that is why Francis, McCormack and Benson had to drop back a league or two to find their natural level.

I tend to dislike players who play the politician, both during and after their careers. Whether it is coincidence or not, these players tend to be the ones who jump on the racism bandwagon - Sol Campbell, Jason Roberts, Paul Elliott et al. I just don't see their motives as being entirely honourable.
