I’d like to see Andy Smith be Figueiredo’s immediate replacement. I think another loan to League 1 or 2 is pointless at this stage. He’s 21 now, 22 in September. If he’s not trusted to be a back-up Championship centre-half this season, what’s the point loaning him out again for another year? I know we’ve loaned out Callum Jones again after giving him a new contract and he’s a similar age but unlike Callum Jones, I can see Smith having a future at City. My mate’s a Grimsby fan and thinks he’s quality and definitely good enough to make the step up. He’s a ball-playing centre-half which is ideal for our way of playing. Plus it saves us money trying to sign another right-footed centre-half who is comfortable playing out from the back.
I've seen him a couple of times for U21s and both times I thought best player on the pitch with the ball, worst one without it. He was actually a bit better yesterday, did seem to be working harder off the ball and I wonder if they've sat him down and told him exactly what he needs to add to his game if he's going to make it.
Does anyone know if Will Jarvis is any relation to former City player ('60s) Alan Jarvis? His Wiki page doesn't mention family stuff.
Not that I am aware of, unlikely I would say, Will Jarvis is from York and Alan went back to Wales to live.
