Adu just make the mistake of going with the chat show, if he made the smart move and went with Macdonalds (like scott parker) then surely he would have made a strong career in the game?
I think he'd be playing for a top team in the world if he decided to join one of the top European academies instead of playing the US. So much wasted potential.
He flopped at Benfica, flopped on loan at Monaco - all hype, no end product. He's the Wii U of football.
That's what's holding back US football progress. If we do get a great talent, he's liable to lose his edge playing against kids who aren't half as good, while someone in a good academy (or Brazil or Argentina) faces other top players.
I might go for Friedel as well, but it's a tough call. Best year for an American had to be Dempsey's 17 goals in the PL and most tackles by a forward (supposedly...) last year. Donovan's been extraordinary in World Cups, though it's hard to take his MSL record seriously. Lalas was the best American last millenium. I agree with the comments about Dempsey not really being a Spurs player (I've said them myself). But I'm glad he's playing because he's good at scoring ugly goals, and Spurs have been finding any kind of goals hard to come by lately.
Neven Subotic is another top grade player that decided not to play for the US. If I remember correctly he was born in Serbia moved to the states at a young age and played in our youth international teams, but when he wasn't getting called up by Bon Bradley and Serbia came knocking he told us **** off.
