Me too. And Imaz. Different perceptions, opinions, and confrontation on these perceptions and opinions add a lot to the Board IMO, and both gave that. And like most everything they are not really life and death matters. Demanding proof of the unprovable, and apologies for who knows what half the time add nothing.

'Think of how many people don't bother posting anymore: roller, finglas, willy, Staines, Eamon, inky, nuts to name a few'.
I must agree with Tooting and say the board has lost that sparkle that made this the best board on Not606. I think sometimes people take these forums too seriously. Agree we must not use abusive/racist/homophobic language but we also need to look at things in context. I have been banned from the Chelsea board (which is no great loss as most of them are not worth debating with anyway) because i called their fans 'scum' after the recent incident in Paris, yet i have read posts by others that say worse things and it's accepted and they get no ban? This inconsistency is one of things that lets the N606 forum down.

I personally think this is a good board. I don't visit other teams as I've no interest in other teams apart from QPR so can't comment on those. We have lost some good posters but as swords said we have gained some. These places attract trolls and that's what Queens became. It became tedious and his posts were becoming more outrageous and low every week. It's a difficult job for the mods but it doesn't become a case of where do stop but more a case of where do you start.

It's a club run by volunteers, not professionals, it's bound to be inconsistent. On the QPR board we have agreed a set of rules which the moderators and contributors respect. Can't really hold our mods responsible for what happens on other boards. Don't know what it's like now but the Swansea board used to be in permanent civil war, bans every other minute. Ours is still one of the most civilized and interesting pages on this site from what I can see. Shame some people have left, but life goes on.

I would like to add another angle to AWOL forum members. If we had something to wax lyrical about QPR related this season then our forum would most likely be less stressed out in my opinion.

For sure some may well have left due to annoying threads where meltdowns happen. It's nothing new on our forum, it's been happening right from the beginning and sadly will never stop. It's a common trait with all sports forums and not exclusive to ours.

I still think there are many great contributors on our forum and to be honest I'm not going to loose any sleep about any member who decides to leave. If someone has had enough then fair play to them, other forums are available, different strokes for different folks.

If I think any member on this forum is annoying I simply choose not to interact with them, simple as that.

Anyway the point I was going to make was more a football one. Let's face it our season back in the Prem has been mostly a painful and stressful experience.

If and when our beloved QPR start winning and dare I say survive then I bet some of the missing members will start posting again. Also some of the OT threads that may be annoying some forum members would not be near the top so often.

I like all forum members can't wait to take part in a thread where for example we hammer Arsenal 4 - 0.

I don't class our mods the same as the others. I have said before i think our mods do a top job.

Queens is a contrite chap. If anyone showed even the slightest overture of making amends, he'd have jumped at the chance and all would have been well.

Instead, as Ozzie pointed out above, we had people pulling and dragging at him from all sides trying to extract apologies for meaningless piffle from a man who was clearly not in his right mind. Now how the hell was that ever going to end up?

I worked in a lunatic asylum as a security guard some years ago and on occasion the nurses would call me to assist them because a patient was getting violent. Now I'm no Psychiatrist but 9 times out of 10 I put the patient's distressed state down to the way they were being handled by the staff. Talk about exacerbating the situation. When given a few minutes, I'd have the person nice and calm and eating out of my hand.

Nines, this entire episode was entirely preventable but one or two folk just kept chucking fuel on the fire and it has ended in tragedy. One of the founding members of this Board and one of its most entertaining characters is gone, never to return. It really is an awful shame.

Very interesting observation Swords. In the early 1960's after my grandfather passed away, my grandmother lived with us for a while. Looking back on that time I remember her being bit eccentric - she would tell me to always behave myself because the TV man (newsreader) was actually watching me, she would always warm her clothes over a gas stove before dressing and frequently wore a blue and white polka dot dress. She was eventually confined to Park Prewett Mental Hospital, near Basingstoke, but my Dad always went there alone there for visits. She likely just suffered from dementia, but as kids Park Prewett had a very negative connotation as a "loony bin". I remember around 1967, quite late at night, a policeman knocked at our door to inform us that she had passed away. I wish my Dad had perhaps included me on one of his many visits there, perhaps he wanted to shield us from that side of her life.

Thanks for the reply Sword's. A contrite chap is certainly one way of putting it. Indeed it is a shame that he's gone but only bought about by himself sadly.
He wasn't provoked, he instigated the provocation on Sunday's thread and on the one the previous Sunday. He responded to any comment on those threads with an exponential anger and a premeditated agenda. There were comments made by myself, my fellow mods and other posters that tried to calm him down and not provoke any type of reaction. ( I'm referring to Sunday the 15th of February here. I wasn't present on the board on the 22nd at the time of QL's posts. ) He chose to respond to some of these good intentions with disapprobation. What he said to other posters was quite frankly far more perturbing.

This of course meant that the mods had to muster yet again to determine which course of action to take. QL had said he wasn't drunk, so that omitted that excuse as a mitigating circumstance. However we disbelieved this and gave him the benefit of the doubt and hopefully he would experience one of those...

''Oh no, what have I said? What have I done?''

Kinda moments that we've all gone through at one time or another in life. The answer to that question was a simple no. He didn't.
Unlike a normal person who knew they were in the wrong, he chose not to hold his hands up, apologise and have the chance to move on. ( Which in fairness most of us on here possess the capacity in which to do so.) He instead decided to seek apologies because he still perceived that he was the one that was actually wronged. Even when his accusations held no foundation and was pointed out to him in a completely polite way he still sought a misplaced retribution on here. Culminating in Sunday's episode. Which then brings us to your analogy, that you've posted above.

''The likes of Queens needs to be handled in a certain way. He wasn't handled correctly at all and its a real shame.'' Sword's #123

In my time on here as a mod, and in my limited capacity, I identified that QL was a bit erratic with his posts. Probably more so than any other poster. When he posted well I used to PM him and tell him so and tried to encourage him. When he posted badly I also Pm'd him and asked him to not get over personal with other posters etc. I also tried to get him as a senior poster to act with more responsibility and set a standard for our board. QL responded to these PM's with complete acceptance and a willing to do so. ( I have the PM's to prove this but for obvious reasons they can't be fully disclosed on open forum. Roller would be able to vouch for this though. )

But then came the Sunday afternoons UK time. This is when the problems would start. Usually on a Sunday ( Sometimes on a Saturday. ) QL v Col, QL v Finglas, QL v Yorkie, QL v TIME etc.

Despite numerous attempts to help him it would always resort to this. Despite numerous words of encouragement, words of warning and at least six bans it just got worse. I've tried good guy, I've tried bad guy and every degree in-between. None of it's worked and we are now where we are.

You're analogy about the lunatic is an interesting one and I think you're very honourable for undertaking such a difficult task. Being that you succeeded at it when the so called professionals couldn't is, I find even more admirable. It's a shame you weren't about when the above situations occurred. We needed you.

Not that I'm suggesting that you mean Queenslander is a lunatic or anything. It's just that with you're help in this matter, we wouldn't have got to this. It's not as if me, the mods or any of our previous mods are psychologists, psychoanalysts or anything of that ilk. But perhaps if we were we would've done better.

I promise you, I did try though.

Queeny never learnt his lesson and his mask always slipped not long after making his "apologies"
Could be a good poster at times , but the vast majority of his posts were complete tripe. Can't say he will be missed too much

Has Eamon left? He hasn't posted since the 5th if this month. I really enjoy his contribution, so sincerely hope this is but a brief sabbatical.

Very well said 'sb' ................... the mods are dammed if they do and dammed if they don't and let's face it, as you say, they are volunteers and would like to spend more chewing the fat with fellow members than having to justify their positions whilst solving issues.
