If there is something in football which both excites and annoys me, it's the bipolar topic of supporters unity. Nothing better in life than celebrating the fifth goal against your fierce rivals with strangers wearing the same colours and exhibiting the same grin, yet mob mentality leads to the most anti-pc (and yes, sometimes that's a bad thing) and horrendous attitudes in society. Supporting a racist, to me, is absolutely deplorable, more so booing the abused victim. I know I'd get my head caved in, but I would openly oppose a racist appearing in our strip, and to be honest I took a very reserved and dim view of Bowyer and Woodgate in their time here, but an incident akin to Suarez's would be season-ticket destroying from my point of view. I don't see myself as a moral judge or as the owner of a particular high horse, but I do have principles about supporting people who I believe deserve my support.

I took a hell of a lot longer to warm to Barton than pretty much everyone I know, but I'm glad his punishments (and the ability to use twitter to vent his anger) have changed him, and I very much agree with rehabilitation, but footballers rarely get touched by the law... If Suarez were a newcastle player, it would take a good few years of clear behaviour before I personally felt comfortable with him in the team again, but that's just my opinion.

I await the inevitable angry response from a Liverpool fan, who inevitably has been prowling the boards to store up some quotes to relieve some of that Carroll-humiliation after our next meeting...

I now feel so offended, I'm comtemplating on commiting sucide because you made that comment.

But no, you must be right, Suarez is the nicest person in the whole, wide world.

The thing that defines you as a person however is the fact, that even though i complimented him and said he's such a good player, you still feel the need to have a go, when even the majority of Liverpool fans would admit he's a bit of a knob.

I think you will find I have already stated in the past that if Suarez was not a Liverpool player I would probably hate him. <ok>

So how exactly do you feel about him? Do you love him simply for wearing red? Just how far could we take this? If Dalglish dressed Mugabe in a liverpool kit and shoved him upfront (he'd probably score more than Carroll, to be fair), would you still cheer him? Is Gary Glitter allowed on your christmas compilation because he once wore a liverpool top (noooo don't google, I made it up, I hope)?

Obviously, such comparisons with snotty Suarez are totally extreme, and I mean no offence here, but they are interesting questions of football fans. Out of the millions who support Liverpool, there have got to be thousands of differing opinions, as with any club. I mean, Chelsea's Terry, Blues hero or thug and sex-craved arse? I'm not sure I could cheer on someone in a Newcastle strip if they were involved in instigating any of the recent scandals... But that is just me...
