SWP? If so, still not seeing the end product which is my concern?

He was OUTSTANDING at Spurs and yesterday. Are you lot TV view vs live viewers? Do disrespect but the commentary shapes your perceptions of some games. He tachled hard - great accuracy on passes - is MUCH more physcal than last year - is trusted by the rest of the team. Has anyone else noticed how really think through who they are passing to now? We are getting better every game as we play more. Faurlin like Mackie have shown the potential to transition - with their individual game. U r's!!!

Whether Ali has a good or bad game, I'd like more from him - more composure, more confidence and authority; and the imagination to get things moving forward.

All I see most of the time is him receiving the ball and as Ruislip says, tonnes of short passes sideways. It's like he's frightened of looking up to make more passes like Roller's example of that defence-splitter against Reading last season. Truth be told, we don't see Ali doing that too often do we?

Comparing Faulin's game with Ray Wilkins is apple and orange stuff. True, Wilkins wasn't the quickest but he'd hold the ball, edging forward looking for the telling pass that could turn a game. Much more commanding a midfielder than Ali. (Having said that, Wilkins judgement as manager or pundit leaves a lot to be desired imo!)

Is Ali our best player - let alone best midfielder in the prem? Really? Personally, I'd accept one or two million for him BUT if his reputation goes before him, let's hope for some misguided spendthift comes through with an offer nearing ten! As for Citeh boys talking swapping him for Barry and/or Milner (was it?), that's like someone offering me a Ferrari for me battered old Omega. In both cases, I wish!

I know people rate Ali and that's fine by me. If we all saw things in the same way there'd be nowt to talk about would there? As for Col saying I'm talking bollox, he may well be right (again) - but then again (taking a leaf from Oddball's book)... nothing wrong with giving our bollocks a bit of an airing from time to time, eh guys? Too much gush and it all gets a bit sticky don't you find?!!

To be fair Brix...I shouldn't have said that. You're obviously entitled to your opinion.
However, I find your descriptions of Faurlin so far removed from what I see at every home game. No disrespect mate, but could it be that you don't get the full view of him watching on the telly, even in a live game and certainly not from highlights?
Ali was again man of the match against arguably the best midfield in the prem. He breaks up play, wins lots of headers, receives the ball under pressure and retains possession which is vital in this league! He's a holding midfielder, so he isn't always going to be able to play a "killer" pass from a more withdrawn position. He is the glue that holds our team together and looks every inch a class performer.
TBH, for me, saying he isn't a very good midfielder is a bit like saying Messi can't dribble!! Or that night won't follow day!! It's just so obvious that he is a very good footballer!!
Finally...did you really not think he had at least a good game yesterday?

Wow, harsh stuff there Brix but great to be reading your articles again.

Faurlin was overrun at Spurs but put in a magnificent performance last night. As I said before, its very important to remember that he is still just a lad and will continue to grow in confidence and improve. When he becomes consistent he will be our most important player. I'm very happy with the way hes developing.

On another note. Does anyone else find it slightly disconcerting that big Tony is doing the media thing a bit too much? I just seen him on SS News and although he seems like a top bloke, history shows us its almost always bad news when the owners are in the limelight instead of quietly working away behind the scenes.

Col, Swords: Oddly enough, I do get to the occasional game (Bolton and Blackburn so far this year), watch live at every opportunity and rarely see MotD because highlights are just that... very scant.

AND it's not that I don't like Faurlin either, or don't recognise that he does put in some reasonable performances from time to time. He's certainly a charismatic lad who comports himself and plays with a lot of integrity.

I know I'm swimming against the tide on this one - and the fact that I cannot see what others see, is what makes this discussion so interesting for me. Why is that, I ask myself?

At the end of the day, discussing it with your peers is the only way of finding out.

Average at this level, but one of our better players this year. Says it all really.

Think Tony did a lot of press this weekend simply because he is in the country. He's very media savvy and somewhat exotic so the press want to talk to him. We hear from Neil daily (sometimes feels like hourly), but Amit and Beard have been a bit quiet.
Re Faurlin I love him, but agree he is a very 'European' style player and may not be to everyone's taste (I remember a fair few on here don't like Arsenal's style either) But as long as he is at the base of our midfield we will be a passing team which is fine by me.

Could be Grif... but then again maybe you'd expect a hint of a glimmer from a diamond in the rough.

I'm not saying Ali's a bad player. Like Joey says, average at this level - and far too ordinary for the plaudits he gets.

Didn't you see the Spurs game? He was non-existent. However against City he was fantastic. Two performances completely at odds with each other.

We'll just have to agree to differ Brix. You are so far towards the opposite end of the spectrum to me on Ali's abilities!! You likened him to "a battered old Omega". So you not only don't think he's as good as most of the rest of us do, you actually think he's a poor player! Unbelievable really!! And as for him only being average at this level....you and Joey have got to be on the wind up. He was fantastic yesterday, against a top class midfield, but neither of you could see it!! Just incredible!!

Faurlin was fantasic yesterday against Man City, and I think has finally arrived in the Premier league.
