So Cambiasso wouldn't sign the extension when NP was manager but Ranieri is at fault if he doesn't now - interesting logic.
As good as Cambiasso was/is he isn't make or break for us. We have another money and time to find the right players to replace him if he doesnt come back Ranieri has had a week to look at the team and with Shakey and Walshy sticking around for at least the time being he will now have a good idea what the team needs for next season. For me we still need a centre half, winger and 2 centre midfielders
Where did I say he wouldn't sign an extension under Pearson? I said he wouldn't be rushed whomever was manager.
Agreed ... but I think we are in a better position than we would otherwise have been because of Robert Huth's presence ... conceding goals was our biggest problem and we were still doing that with Cambiasso in the team prior to Huth's impact ... Yes we do need a replacement with some of the same attributes as Esteban, but preferrably a bit younger and signed on a longer term contract .. As to whether Ranieri is the right man to bring in someone in that regard? ... his past record suggets he might be .. he was faced with the departure of Diego Maradona when he took over at Napoli - he brought in Gianfranco Zola to replace him ... not a complete unknown but certainly not the 'galactico' he went on to become ... Pearson and his team were great at identifying 'hidden gems' and bringing them in ... but personally I feel that Ranieri has more managerial clout than Nigel Pearson would have in terms of attracting a more established talent to the club from the continent - and therefore I remain optimistic about the prospects of obtaining a suitable replacement for the marvellous Esteban Cambiasso .. One thing I sincerely hope is that if he does sign for another Prem side he gets a rousing reception when appearing at the King Power stadium ... he deserves it and he has earned it ... personally I don't think he is disloyal - he kept his side of the bargain, he contributed hugely to keeping us up - I also firmly believe that the club could have kept him if the contract terms offered were more lucrative (but I'l never know for sure) - and there may well be good commercial reasons for them offering exactly what they did (again, I dont know) ..
That we are linked with 2 french defensive midfielders says a lot. Cambiasso is probably looking for a massive payday in Qatar or USA - he only signed a 1 year deal with us so probably always wanted to go after.
Totally agree that it was far more crucial to get Huth back than it was Cambiasso. Not too fussed about losing Cambiasso, Excited about this Mendy fella though. Get him in Claudio.
Jon Rudkin has said they are very hopeful that Esteban Cambiasso will sign Ranieri's quotes on Cambiasso- We need yes or no as the start of the season is coming. He's a big team leader. If he doesn't we need another team leader" @OfficialFOXES 2m2 minutes ago CR: “I spoke with Esteban. I’ve known him since Inter and I told him ‘I need you’. #WelcomeClaudio
Hope there is something in this - would be great to have Esteban pulling the strings in what is beginning to look like it will be be a mcuh strengthened squad (if we get some of these targets we have allegedly bid for) ...
Would rather have him then not but is taking the mick a little be too much - he needs a preseason so hopefully won't stall much longer.
I think Ranieri was smart by saying he needs Cambiasso rather then he wants him. Cambiasso wants to play a big part of something not a bit part hence why he came here in the first place and not joined a bigger club. By saying we need him its say he will be an integral part again if he signs. But Ranieri was also right, we can't wait around much longer, we need an answer either way soon because he won't be fit for when the season start if he doesnt sign soon plus we might miss out on other transfer targets
It's a fact Cambiasso didn't sign the offer of an extended contract when NP was manager yet you see it as a failing on Ranieris part that he won't sign one either - as I said interesting logic, would you count it as a mark against NP as well if he was still in charge I wonder?
If Cambiasso doesnt sign its not a mark against Pearson or Ranieri Cambiasso achieved what he came here to do and if he feels he wants a new challenge then I don't think there is a great deal either NP or Ranieri could do about that
As Pearson had his time cut short, the only fact regarding Pearson re-signing Cambiasso worthy of note was that Cambiasso didn't rule out the possibility of signing again under Pearson. Yes, it would have been a mark against Pearson if Cambiasso hinted that he was moving on because of the manager (as he has done in this case - we're told he would assess the managerial appointment before deciding if he had a future here). It would actually be the first evidence that Pearson's behavior, which bothers so many of our posters, had had any kind of detrimental affect on the squad - but as this didn't happen it's a moot point.
Cambiasso has played under Jose Mourinho, I don't think Pearson misdemeanours bothered Cambiasso that much
I'd agree on that ... similarly I don't think Ranieri being appointed will be a defining factor on whether he leaves or not - I am not aware of there having been any negative history between the two? - I personally feel that if he leaves it will simply be for a more lucrative contract ...
or a different challenge. Although i don't like how long it takes him to decide, now or last summer, hes certainly not only interested in the monies. Im not sure even he can get more out of WHU though, they are one of the "best of the rest" already. If he did move on, i'd like him to leave the country completly though, would hate to see him coming to the KP as an opponent.
