I think the Tavern was where my sister took us the last time we were out (October 2010). In the centre of Brisbane there is a bar in the precinct just across from the museum. Watched some Saints matches there a couple of years ago. Do they still do that do you know? Is that where you catch up on games?

Could of been the Pig 'n' Whistle British pub? They're very Football crazy, probably the only decent place in Brisbane you will find proper British footballing fans. That pub is on Queens Street, i think the museum is close by though.

You got it in one, I think it was the Pig and Whistle. I have seen a couple of matches there, (If I haven't seen them there then am not sure where) but have definately sunk a couple in there and it wasn't Fosters........<laugh> The Aussies can't stand the stuff I'm told. Had my leg pulled when I asked for one in there!!!
Just remembered there was another Saints fan that used to post on the old 606. He came on asking if anyone new of a venue in Brisbane that showed Saints or matches from the uk. I couldn't tell him the name but definately gave him directions.

I was lucky enough to be invited to the player's lounge at Home Park after a friendly against Plymouth in 1991 (I think) - my mate went to school with Neil Maddison that's how - and I bought Alan Shearer a beer. We spent about a half hour in the company of Shearer, Flowers, Hall, Osman and Le Tiss of course plus Paul Rideout and.....well I forget now, it's me age you know. It was a terrible game but it was just a friendly.

I got to meet a few legends at that Sunday match like Paul Jones and Niemi (my favourite Saints keeper of all time). I had a great weekend, got to Southampton airport at 7pm or so on the SUnday night to fly back to Belfast and James Beattie walked past me! I was nearly sure it was him but he was far away so I waited until he sat down in the bar and went over and got a photo. He's probably my favourite Saint's player of all time you know. Made my weekend as if the Saturday shenanigans weren't enough ;)

James Beattie in Southampton. Didn't talk to him as he looked in a grumpy mood.

I met the whole FA cup finalists of 2004. I waited after a game and got the whole team to sign my flag.

Talked to Paul Sturrock in Wetherspoons in Plymouth when I was trashed. He said Lowe was a twat :) After that I was asked quietly to leave ha.

Viafara in Oceana the day before he left Saints. Really nice guy.

I saw Beattie outside the ground before the Walsall game actually. Bit weird, no idea what he was doing there. Unfortunately I realised quite last minute and just sort of stepped in front of him, stopping him with my hands. He looked at me, and seemed a bit pissed off, but I asked for a picture and he was quite happy. Shook my hand and carried on his merry way.

    So many incidents -

Sat on shearer and ruddocks knee for a photo in player lounge at the dell (i was about 8) Served Marian pahars and Barry venison at a sports store when I was 16. Marion had his wife and newborn child with him and was wearing a mini saints shirt.

Was at the entrance to grosvenor casino, showing Casino card and Kevin Davies wondered in behind me, put his arm round me in drunken state and said 'I'll get you in lads'. It was funny cos we were already through. He then walked us to a roulette table, laid a wedge of fifties on the table and asked us to pick his numbers. He lost a small fortune. Le tiss and jimmy case then came over and I drunkenly asked le god if he could use his status to get money out with my credit card at the desk. (they had already refused saying they would only accept debit card).

Had an arm wrestle with claus lundekvam on a bin outside the old fat cat. He destroyed me. He was getting abuse from some noobs strolling past who I proceeded to drunkenly chase away. He then put some black Norwegian tar stuff in my gums which made my mouth go numb.

Saw him the following week in la
Margheuritas and he came over and shook my hand which was pretty special.

My sister sung live at st marys a few years back before a game, I was pitchside with the squad and Gareth bale asked me if she was single. He then asked her out via Facebook but she declined as she had a bf!

If my writing is terrible, please excuse - typing on my iPhone is harder than I thought.

    Over and out.

Saw Anti Niemi and his wife whilst their daughter (a very blonde trio!) was taking part in Gymnastics competition at Hamble School a few years ago. I asked his wife, "is that Anti Niemi?", which was a really unnecessary question since the daughters name was in the programme! Met Shilts when he was doing some promotion for a camera company in Dixons years ago-not as tall as I thought he would be.
I also saw Le Tissier at Botley Park Hotel tucking into a big plate of food, and remember thinking, "a bit greedy Matt!" although he was injured at the time. Didn't feel like disturbing the great man, as everyone is entitled to eat their lunch in peace.

Reading all the previous posters much more impressive and intimate contacts with players past and present, I have one question ; how come all the transfer rumour threads are so completely clueless??! <laugh>
