The Premier League have sent a letter to each manager, reminding them that they're not allowed to link contracted managers to other jobs.
Fergie's reaction? He tells everyone about it, linking a contracted manager to another job. <doh>

I don't think he did, though. The rest is all accurate but I thought the England players who came out said they wanted 'Arry were the worst, Rooney and Rio no doubt were given a nudge by SAF to do it.

I agree, i thought that was wrong, can you imagine if that was a player they were talking about, surely that would almost be classed a tapping up. Perhaps Levy has been causing a bit of a stir with the FA that all the PL managers are tapping up Redknapp for the England Job, hence the letter.

SAF hasn't encouraged 'Arry to take the England job. If my memory serves me correctly, when he was asked shortly after Capello's departure, he said that 'Arry may feel he has unfinished business at Spurs. He said it won't be easy to leave Spurs when you've built of team that's capable of winning something, or words to that effect. He simply observed, as many other managers did in press conferences (and seems to be the general consensus of opinion anyway), that he was the best man for the job. The F.A have clearly taken exception to managers routinely expressing an opinion on the subject in press conferences when asked, not that any of the anodyne comments made will have any bearing on the appointment.

Are you claiming that the young, inexperienced Fergie has been misquoted in the media? Nevermind, when he has a few seasons in England under his belt I'm sure he'll work out how to answer these kinds of questions without showing such naivety.

The FA aren't sending him a private letter because they think he's influencing their decision, it's because they don't want the continued spotlight on 'Arry. The continued speculation will upset Spurs and there's less chance of Levy agreeing to let him go for anything less than the £5mill clause he supposedly has. Ferguson knows best though and clearly asking him to shut his trap for once was totally out of order and worth telling the press about, which inevitably brings the 'Arry speculation back up again.

Its occured to me now that Levy has been as silent as the FA through all this. <whistle>

Alex Ferguson, on the other hand, has been acting like a primary school snitch...

...whilst saying 'Arry is the right man for the job. In a press conference where he says he;s been told not to discuss the England job. Because of a request we sent to the FA.

Ferguson, as ever, is showing how expert he is at manipulating the media for the good of his club and to the detriment of all others. He's done it for years and years. He'll always look for ANY advantage he can gain this way - he's not worried about dignity any more. Well, it works I suppose. Winners need a bit of nastiness, a bit of 'needle' about them and he's a great manager. But a total tosser as a person.

If the FA want to break with tradition and punish Alex Ferguson for his comments, the best punishment would be to make him the new England manager.

Of course, the fact he doesn't have the necessary coaching certificates (which the FA have never had a problem with) might affect his chances - but it will alert FIFA and UEFA to the fact that Man Utd's manager isn't qualified to coach in European competition - so finishing fifth might yet qualify Chelsea for the Champions League...
