Harry Redknapp on Director's of Football... 2014: "It totally undermines your role as manager if you're not picking the players. It's a joke really that you are expected to work with someone else's players. It's all very well someone recommending players to you but when they don't work out, it's your head on the block." http://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/fo...6/Harry-Redknapp-Directors-football-joke.html 2016: Former Tottenham Hotspur manager Harry Redknapp is in talks to become director of football at Championship side Derby County, BBC Radio Derby reports. http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/35807319
Redknapp was Portmouth's Director of Football in 2001. The Scum, er... Sun are suggesting that Glenn Hoddle's going to be Head Coach if Redknapp does take the job. I'll definitely be paying more attention to Derby if that's true. They're a good side and could still go up.
True but you can forgive him for his comments in 2014 as it was done off the back of his own experience in the role prior. To then accept a job that he has called a joke afterwards is a total u-turn.
"The Scum, er... Sun are suggesting that Glenn Hoddle's going to be Head Coach if Redknapp does take the job. I'll definitely be " wanting the Academy to establish strong loan links to that club if the above happens.
Harry doesn't do Academy players. More likely a return to Derby for the likes of Roy McFarland, I hear he's a "lovely family man".
From the quote above surely Harry is saying that the Manager's position is a joke not the Director of Football's. In his personal case it is a joke because Harry's skills are centred around his ability to 'pick a player' and fashion a team. His weakness IMO is a lack of diplomacy in his dealings with the media. His knowledge of football makes him an ideal candidate for the director of football role but his success at it depends on who he is directing as manager.
Can't wait for Deadline Day, It ain't the same without the interview through the car window. Whether you love or hate him, he is pure entertainment.
Redknapp's been confirmed in this job and is also being linked with the role of manager of Jordan. He always did like two up front...
I can see it now. Harry of Arabia.Hundreds of desert lovers all holding jars of petroleum jelly yelling "Harry,we love you!"
It was a mistake OS I was doing a personal email at the time of posting and posted the X's in an auto fashion. @O.Spurcat
No Joe in Jordan? They named the place after him, FFS! It'll be interesting to see how Redknapp does over there. Not the first place that springs to mind for him, for me. Having said that, I'm sure that they've got plenty of sandbanks over there... If nobody in the business is making a documentary about this, then they're really missing a trick. 'Arry and the Arabs or something. I suspect that there'd be moments of hilarity but also a fair bit of an insight into the sport in the Middle East. A short series about his time as coach would definitely get me watching.
Redknapp's first game: Jordan 8-0 Bangladesh. Is it too late to replace Hodgson? Nice backheel for the 7th. Standard hilarious post-match interview: Clearly couldn't understand a word that the bloke was saying!
