What, like he did last time? He failed to attract the right players last time he was here.

If that's the case, I think that would be sorted out before his appointment. If he wasn't going along with it, imagine Cortese would know that. Also, can't see how Harry could financially break us - given his past reputation, all eyes will be on him, and I imagine Cortese will have a tight process in place that ensures our finances can't be abused. We are in different times, and he's not going to sanction stupid transfer fees.

Anyway, hope it's not true, but if it is, I'm certainly not going to withdraw my full support, and contribute to any Steve Kean-style shenanigans. If it's three weeks, I expect that's a deadline for Adkins to show he can turn the ship around. That's three games with some serious incentive to win. Alternatively, if it is now pre-destined and he knows it, that doesn't bode well for us getting any results in the foreseeable future.

I am not a grudge holder against Redknapp, however for those that are saying he'd be the right man for us, I'd like to ask one question: why did he not succeed in keeping us up last time, when he took over in November? The squad wasn't that bad and we made some money available in the January window, when ironically, Michael Dawson chose Spurs over Saints.

When Redknapp arrived at Saints 8 years ago one of the first things he said was that the squad were not good enough for the Premier League and would be lucky to get out of the Championship.

    1. It wasn't true as this squad was essentially the same one that had been pushing 4th at Christmas the season before.

    2. Not the best of motivational tactics.

    3. That put him in a win win situation. Had we stayed up it would have been all about how he managed to keep this rubbish team up and if we went down, he had told us all that they weren't good enough anyway, so it wasn't his fault.

In the January transfer window he had the chance to use his great "wheeler dealer" skills. He brought in his ageing son, Henri Camara and a few others who were pretty rubbish, whilst selling James Beattie. Yeah well done Arry. Even look at last January, was Luis Saha a good deal for a side who were aiming to win the league? Sorry I don't really rate him unless he has a blank chequebook which he won't have with us.

I don't know why he couldn't save you then. Perhaps your squad just wasn't strong enough. But that was 8 years ago and in that time he has won an fa cup and managed 2 top 4 finishes in the premier league among other things.

Do you not accept he may have improved as a manager since 2004?

That's one of the potential problems - he is the sort of manager who would jump ship as soon as a position such as WHFC became free.

In truth, I seriously believe he has been surrounded by better coaches since 2004. That squad was good enough to stay up; we led so many games going into the last ten minutes that season.

Anyway, I was just playing devils advocate for all those thinking he may be the answer and especially saying he would attract big names with his wheeler dealer approach; he didn't last time. I firmly believe we stick with Adkins, even through relegation.

I don't think so. I think he has one more job in him and the Southampton job is ideal.

A nice quick commute from sandbanks. A good young side with lots of potential. A chairman who appears willing to put the money up. Redknapp would know that with a few defensive additions, a few of his coaches around him and a slight adjustment to your tactics, he would keep you up without too much difficulty.

Ok, hyperthetically that happens. What next? How long does he stay and what are are next plans for long term progression and stability?

All this conjecture is only relevant for those who believe that relegation is the end of the club.

Ok people i posted this on the other thread and thought i'd put it here as well. What did NC do last time we were struggling? He fired pardew, since then its all been very rosey and succsessful now we are struggling again surely you must see that according to form NC will sack adkins. I know its wrong but judgng NC on history its likely to happen.

I agree that being in the premiership isn't everything. But given what you have been through over the last few years, I think it would be a shame to surrender you premiership status so soon.

Adkins may long term be a superb premier league manager but right now he appears to be out of his depth. Can you afford to take a chance that he will come good?

The championship is looking more and more competitive. I am glad we got out when we did.

If you went down, would lambert and Lallana stick around? Would you be able to replace them?

I think one of your main strengths last season was how you took everyone by surprise from the start. If you went down, you would be seen as the big glamour fixture (similar to us last season). Is that something Adkins can cope with?

You might not be bothered about going down. But it may be a very long road back so I think it would be a shame if you did drop.

Redknapp may well be a short term appointment. But he would almost certainly give you a few years of premiership football at which time, as a more established side, perhaps a younger, more modern manager can take the reigns.

According to Ian McGarry on the BBC's Monday Night Club, all the boardroom talk is that 'Arry is headed for QPR. Makes more sense to me, but when did you encounter sense in football? <ok>

To be fair, trixter, you do talk a lot of sense. But I still think Redknapp's a cock and nothing will change that! (bitter? Not at all <laugh>)

Hold your horses. I'll just take these words out of my mouth and give them back to you:

Of course it would be a shame if we go down!

I am bothered if we go down, I just said that I don't think we should sack Nigel and it wouldn't be the ned of the world if we get back on the progression trail quickly.

and I posted this on the other thread too ... he sacked Pardew becasue he didn't share the same vision. Struggling? We'd played really, really well in the first three games. Lost the first, drew the second and then won four nil away in the third.

    Cheers Pal.

Oh I'm with you. Redknapp is a bit of a cock. Anyone that can manage both West Ham and spurs and both Saints and Portsmouth has gotta be a little lacking in morals.

But I would have him back with open arms and I bet you would too!
