The problems we have now are a consequence of mistakes made during the transfer window. We all knew as did Nicola and Nigel that our defence needed strengthening and that was not done for whatever reasons. So replacing Nigel with some one else still leaves us with a crap defence so the problem will not be solved.

Nicola is a very sensible man and it would appear that work is being done behind the scene to target potential recruits for January. We will all have to sit back and take it on the chin until then.

One tweet that "appears to be true" (but not enough to put in the paper) does not make a certainty. However I am not going to pretend that these rumours do not exist, they will unless we can pull away from the relegation zone, and with Nicola's (false) media reputation will probably go on forever. I am pretty confident that Nicola will hold on to Nigel, but I am practically certain that he would not appoint Redknapp if he didn't. Not because of the last time he was at Saints, just because he is the opposite of everything that we see in Nigel. 30 games left people.

Appointing Redknapp would be pissing on everything we have done since Markus came along.
I'll say again, I'd rather go down with Nigel than risk it all on 'Arry.

I wouldn't mind betting that you would finish in the top half if you sack Adkins immediately after the spurs match and install Redknapp.

Did you predict that in 2004 as well?

Both Southampton and Redknapp have come a long way since then.

Let's bring back Bernard while we're at it. We need a left back.

Indeed, so why ruin it. I'm sorry, but he'll just want to throw some money on some past it football buddies in Jan, stifle some promising kids, then proclaim we were down already. We'd be in a shocking mess, whereas with NA we could just take a bit longer & prepare better & be back stronger. Its too early to write off this season anyway, but thats how I would see it panning out.

That would be a truly sad day for Southampton........HR is not a Saints man..........I will not be renewing my season ticket next year if he is appointed...no matter whether he saves us from relegation or not!
The man is an asshole has little or no scrupples and I want nothing to do with him.
I really cannot see this happening to be honest I could not in a million years see him working with Cortese.
I do feel though it a bit ominous that Cortese is away at the moment?

At West Ham, Redknapp gave debuts to Rio Ferdinand, Frank Lampard, Joe Cole, Michael Carrick and Jermain Defoe.

at Spurs, off the top of my head, he brought through Livermore, Danny Rose.

what are you basing this theory on?

His lazy work ethic. His unrivaled ability to waste money.
Hey, you love him so much, go start a petition on the Hammers board.

No need for that mate. I was asking about your comment that he will stifle the progress of your promising youth players which you don't seem to have been able to answer.

I don't "love him so much" actually. We have similar ill feeling towards him to you. But he is a superb manager and I know that if appointed either here or at your place, a few top half finishes and cup runs and all would be forgiven very quickly.

Will Redknapp turn our defenders into world-beaters? If not, what's the point of the switch? For my money, if we're going to fire Nigel (and I'm still very much against that notion), it has to be for a manager known for their defensive prowess...we'll score regardless, and 'veteran presence' means **** all if that veteran isn't someone specifically hired to address our primary failing.

I wonder if they knew it needed strengthening to the point of if we don't we will get relegated ?

Sadly I agree. We fans jibber on about loyalty & all that, but en masse we can 'modify' our principles when it comes to being promised a flash of the good stuff.

I'd like Nigel to stay, but if we don't refocus our efforts on whipping the back line into shape then who knows what'll happen :emoticon-0101-sadsm

Redknapp took over at spurs after they had taken 2 points from 8 games. He ended up getting to a league cup final and finishing 8th in the league.

I am guessing Spurs can't have been defending too great at the time he took charge so I would say yes, he probably can improve on your defensive tactics.

I would also like to add that at the time he took over, west ham were exactly 10 points ahead of spurs. The same lead we currently hold over you.

That season they ended up above us on the final day.
