I was well into it when Channel 4 first started showing it back in the early / mid 80's. They used to play that Two Tribes instrumental when they were doing the highlights, and that was a good hook too Also used to like seeing the teams from places like Buffalo, playing in -25 deg with all the snow on the pitch and the mad ****s in the crowd with their tops off painted up in the colours of their teams. But yeah, it's a long winded game with all of the breaks and it kinda kills the spontaneity. When I went to see that game at Wembley it really showed just how long and drawn out it all is. It's no wonder they all have cheerleaders, probs the only thing that keeps everybody in the stadium. I can't get into rugby though, I've tried and it just ain't football at the end of the day.
Quite enjoy Rugby Union ... especially the 6 Nations, Autumn Internationals and World Cup ... but of course the sport has always been popular in Leicester with the Tigers regularly attracting 20k ever since I was a nipper ... played a bit at school too, but only if the footie team hadn't got a game ... played as a winger in both. Could never get on with Rugby League.... the 6 tackles thing and the way the tackler holds on etc. gets on my nerves ... just pile in. Do enjoy American Football ... and loved it when C4 used to cover it back in the day ... but agree that watching it live is a bit long winded.
im a fair weather kinda fan at best with Rugby a World Cup semi final a 6 nations decider and I’ll probably watch it.
Mentioned it before, but it's the same with loads of sports on the tele. Most of them are fun to play, but fukin boring to watch Golf, Cricket, Rugby, Tennis, Snooker, Darts, Athletics etc
Six Nations coming up is worth watching. I think it's pinnacle of rugby Union, bar the world cups. Not overly fussed on the autumn internationals as they just seem a bit too staged, with not much on the line. American Football is **** all like rugby. They throw the ball forward for a start. It's is also way more technical and set piece based. Quite enjoy watching highlights but have never sat through a full game. Steelers by the way. Always.
Went to a few games when I was working in Houston and it just doesn't have the atmosphere of footy. It goes on too long, at any one time half the crowd are out buying refreshments and its also bloody difficult to figure out what is going on, as 90% of the plays are finished inside a few seconds. Realised that the best way to figure it was to watch it on the Jumbotron, as that is live as well, but focussed on the ball. Sort of defeats the object of going to a game though if you have to watch it on a screen. Only good thing is that the seats are better than at football as they have to fit large American arses on them.
