Meyler had a decent game but like everyone else is shy of match practice

Yeah it looks good, it doesn't look too disimilar to how ours looked last season, but the amber socks don't look as bad as I thought they would.

I thought we looked good at points against Ferriby but we just lacked match practice. So many chances we had that were half chances probably would've been put away had that been our fourth game and not our first. Credit to Ferriby the really stuck it in the last 20 mins and gave it a real good go.

Don't think anyone is out of shape and the size difference could be accounted to muscle mass or the fact that you were in closer vacinity than you would normally be at the KC (I thought the same as you until I saw Davies after the match where he looked in good shape). One thing that worried me was that without Huddlestone there wasn't any creativity going forward from the middle especially from deep. Quinn and Livermore seemed a good partnership with Livermore finding the wings with good long balls and Quinn linking up the play nicely with his energy and his ability. However, when we had the ball I felt we really struggled to break a non-league side down and I attributed it to 3 main things.

first, being it a first pre-season the players were clearly getting back in their stride and were just trying to get match fit rather than busting a gut to make something happen, se ond, Long really did struggle without a second striker up front with him and most of his runs out wide left nobody in the middle if Ince/Snodd/Aluko didnt cut in meaning that Long had to play the ball back from the wing allowing to ferriby to either play a high line and offside trap (which ****ing worked) or let long do as he pleases down the wing and regroup. Third, the lack of confidence of Sone Aluko which I felt was key. He's clearly a talented player but severely lacked something and whenever he lost the ball he did his age old thing of looking frustrated and letting the play go on without tracking back. For example, I remember Ince committing a hospital pass but then going on to follow the midfielder win it back and put Townsend in on goal. Ultimately Aluko was severly lacking in sharpness or confidence or both as he could just do the simple things right with some tidy passes to release someone but if he ****ed up he seemed to go on a bad run which leads me to believe he seriously needs a goal and good run of luck.

    just a short review

I'm curious how we lined up against Ferriby. Back 4 or 3? 5 across in MF or 4 with 1 in the hole (Ince?). Any info appreciated.

I made it to be this

    -------------------------Greggsy---------------------------
    Rosie-----Chester------------Davies------------Townsend
    Ince------Quinn-------------Livermore---------Snodgrass
    -----------------------Aluko-----------------------------
    -----------------------Long--------------------------------

Ince Aluko and Snodgrass seemed to be always interchanging

My observations based just on the videos and pictures.

    1) I didn't like the stripeless sleeves in the launch photos, they looked like a separate plain panel that had been put onto a striped shirt and like they were going to stand out badly. Still think we'll have that problem with long sleeved shirts, but the short sleeved ones in the game they looked a lot more like a natural single stripe than a bit they couldn't be arsed to make stripey.

    2) and connected to 1), the amber on the sleeves and socks looked the same colour as the amber stripes on the main body. I shouldn't need to mention that, but with adidas you could spot the difference from 50+ yards away and in almost every picture that showed 2 parts of the kit together, so it's a big improvement on previous efforts.

The added benefit of the sponsor not being a company working in an industry that specifically targets the most vulnerable in society and makes out they're just there to help them is always nice.

The amber socks looked vile in the videos, weren't too bad in the kit launch photos, but vile in the videos. I liked them in the kit launch photos though, but they didn't half look bad in the videos.
