According to the Journal this morning Harper is considering his furture...

"Another dressing room lieutenant, Alan Smith, has also been told to leave, while The Journal understands that Steve Harper also harbours concerns about his future.

Weekend reports claimed Tim Krul would be promoted to number one goalkeeper – a development which would pique the interest of Harper’s long-term admirers Celtic.
    "

I personally think the time is right to give Tim the no.1 jersey, but thats just my opinion.

Agree aswell. But I'm not sure if Harper should go, he still has atleast one more season in him & his experience will be missed, but IMO Krul should be no.1 with Forster as back-up/compitition. <ok>

I still say only give Krul the shirt when Harper retires/leaves.

I know Harper is a great keeper, but I'm surprised any team would go for a keeper of his age. I wouldn't hold it against him if he did leave, he's been the symbol of loyalty throughout his career and is already a club legend

Schwarzer and Friedel have both been linked with/made moves to bigger clubs despite being even older than Harps and Ol' Bacon Face was desperate for VDS to stay on despite being about 50! Old goalkeepers are very chic at the mo.

torn on this one he's been the most loyal player we have had he's never spat his dummy out or complained about not being no.1 just got on with his job with very little fuss.On the other hand would i prefer to see him go or krul/forster,would have to say him because of his age but would be very sad to see him go.
hopefully he'll give it another season.

Pardew stated that he'll evaluate all 3 keepers (Harper, Krul and Forster) during pre-season training and decide on who to use and who goes on loan.

Nothing personal to Harps but both Friedel and VDS are better than him.

Harper has been a great servant and should be kept on, but Krul is the future and deserves his place in the team. Always good to have strength in reserve and Harper's experience can rub off on some of the younger players.

Hopefully a place on the coaching staff can be found for him.

I'd like to keep Harper forever, but if he's not going to be #1 next season and someone else is offering him their #1, I wouldn't begrudge him the move. Would prefer him to stay on to mentor Krul/Forster/Soderberg/Alnwick though.

This would be the ideal scenario but Harper is good enough to play as no. 1 for someone if hes not here so i can see him moving on - perhaps (as the journal suggests) to Celtic.

Bad idea this, Harps has got another 2-3 seasons in him at least and still better than Krul, commands the area and back 4 so much better than Krul or even Given did.

I like Harper and think we should and will keep him.

I think Krul is coming on leaps and bounds though, and Harper's kicking is dreadful.

Basically I think we should keep all 3 (Forster as well), and let the 2 young ones learn from Harps' experience.

However, my interpretation of what's going on is that Newcastle look to be trying to mimic the Lille blueprint of building a young squad that matures together.....

I love Harps but feel that Timmy K will get the nod next year.

My heart wants him to stay forever but my head says I'm not too bothered. Whatever he feels is best for him i guess, Legend

Well why should we trust him?!?! For ****s sake why is everything that has gone on since he arrived forgotten all of a sudden? This board is full of Pardew's!

    EDIT: Wrong article......somehow!

This , although we probably risk losing Krul if we do so. I know sentiment has little or no place in football nowadays , but Harper has been such a loyal servant to the club that I think he deserves a few consecutive seasons of starting games.
