It's baltic today but glorious sunshine. Beautiful day. I don't understand how the so called "water table experts" did no predict this flooding. I mean in the 80's Iron Maiden forewarned us urging us to "Run To The Hills". If a long haires smeely rock band could see what was coming why could the experts not? Negligence.
I blame God I'm afraid - he told Noah to build an ark and put all the animals on it so it shouldn't have been beyond his wit and wisdom to warn the good people of Somerset to build a similar type construction in which to hoarde their worldly possessions.
25% of the Netherlands is below sea level but our cloggie cousins seem to cope pretty well with things. That's probably because they've invested in the infrastructure and engineering to keep their feet dry.
The Netherlands would be half under water every two years. We don't have a big system of dykes for the same reason no **** buys snow tyres - the cost of preventing a once-in-250-year flood would be much larger than the cost to just clean it up every time it happens (unless global warming makes it more frequent, that is).
