Avram Grant has not "appeared from nowhere", he has been mooted as DofF for weeks. Where have you been? As for CP, I merely said I would like him to leave with dignity, the bottom line is he has been our manager for three seasons and has been ****e for one and a half of them.
Just making myself a lovely cup of B****l, practising the words to "Avram Grant's Red Army" Be careful what you wish for.
Whether it's CP, AG or whoever, the next manager is primarily going to be a coach, who works with player's he's given...
Chicago addick picking up on the KM scenario slightly http://chicagoaddick.wordpress.com/2014/03/06/footballing-issues/
The contract talks are a red-herring. CP will be gone by the end of the season - perhaps by Monday. You read it here first, chaps.
The "Footballing issues" must centre around the quality of the players Roland has sent in to "help" Lord P, who, judging by his team selection, doesn't see them as being much of a help.
I cannot see that at all. There will be a lot of clubs in Div One only to happy to see if he can get them promoted with a record-equalling points total then come within three points of the play-offs the following season, and all on a slim budget, Would be different if he left after a row or controversy, or had lost the support of the fans, but he is liked and admired throughout the footballing world. And even if he didn't immediately get a manager's job, he could always go back to doing the sort of thing he was doing at Leicester. He had a long career at the higher levels and has been coaching and managing ever since. I know nothing about his private finances but he hardly seems the sort of person to have spent half his earnings on booze and women, then wasted the rest, so I imagine there would be no need for him to grab at any old offer that come along.
Whilst i have said several times i do not think Powell is to blame at all for our league position (because i still see no evidence to suggest he has done any worse than should be expected) i do not think he is perfect, he has things he needs to improve on for sure. Substitutions have been the biggest problem in his time here, but to be fair this season there has been nothing on the bench that screams game changer. I want him to get a new deal, but i cannot see the point if the board are not going to invest properly in the first team squad. For a start it is not fair on any manager and i would rather he left than ended up wasting away the start of what could be a good managerial career by not actually being a manager. Managers pick the team, have transfer targets in mind and are given a budget to work with and if they fail to find success doing it their way, then that falls on them. This is not Powells Charlton, we all know that. If everything goes the way it looks to be going, this will be another chapter to add to the "what if?" period in the clubs history. What if Curbs had stayed and we didn't spunk all our well earned cash up the wall on the awful signings of an even worse manager? (I am looking at you Dowie.....). What if Zabeel had bought us? What if the money man had not pulled out when Slater and Jimenez were in charge and Powell had been given the backing for our first campaign back in the Championship? What if RD had a clue what it means to own a club in England and understood promotion will make us a lot more cash than waiting for us to grow the next Messi whilst playing the likes of Stevenage? I still think Powell is the right man for "the job", but "the job" is supposed to be getting us to progress as a football club. With this lot in charge "the job" is to make money by way of not spending any and selling anything and everything worth more than a packet of pork scratchings. All well and good putting money into the Academy, but we all know even if we get ridiculously lucky and someone really, really good ends up in our youth setup, they will be wearing a Liege shirt before they can buy a lottery ticket.
The least of my worries to be honest. We need a better squad to compete. Meanwhile, I don't expect to be consulted about next years manager, so my only comment is along the lines of 'be carefull what you wish for' which has been expressed countless times on here.
Just heard CP on Talksport... - "I need assurances on the football side and recruitment and how that will work." Wouldn't we all..?
