I'm a little concerned that these ingredients may be considered a delicacy on your home planet, but I accept your terms <ok>

Dick pie eh. Any preference on who or what's dick?

To be fair I agree we will sell all of those players in years to come, we're like the rest of the clubs, feeders for the big ones. That's just life though and not worth getting your knicks in a twist about.

EDIT: You won't be getting my prime slab of a beast before you ask

None of those players are irreplaceable though are they?

The best footballer of the lot is Coloccini, technically, but none are world beaters that NUFC would struggle to recover from if sold.

Players come and players go – that's the business of football. You just have a choice as to whether you view players going as an opportunity to improve OR as doom, gloom end of the world stuff.

I agree. Kat is required to get balance in this world though. You can't have too many of him but you can't do without any of him. With one nowt would get done and we'd all be reaching for the razor blades, with the other we'd all be in a magical world of make believe, fairies and thinking middle earth is a real place.

Thankyou alas my dedicated and vital role is appreciated.

It's a bad job but somebody has to do it and I'm that man, if necessary that man will do it alone.

Ok so this thread was NEVER about slating anyone with a grievance against the NUFC board or saying "I told you so"

I should add that I'm due a dose of humble pie myself after criticising Ashley etc – and I've waited deliberately until the window shut to resurrect this thread.

However I want to use it to say a big WELL DONE to the NUFC board and player recruitment staff and manager for the business this window.
We were allegedly the biggest spenders this window whilst holding onto our star players (Demba being an awkward exception) and that took some bloody hard work, focus, determination and ambition whether people like it or not.

Some have said it should have been done in the summer and maybe, but hindsight is a wonderful virtue and who is to say our genuine targets were available then?

We have a right to be critical but there has to be balance in that and I think this is a chance to sincerely congratulate and thank (yes, thank) the board.

Early days but the policy of spending this Jan seems to be paying dividends... Onwards and upwards!

No brainer they have done their bit. I'd still like to have seen more action in the summer but you have to learn to look at things from a non passionate business perspective nowadays. The argument is clearly this business would have cost us between 10m-20m more in the summer. There is a lot to be said for waiting for the right time and player. Hopefully a lesson learned for some fans to be honest, patience is a virtue.

Fair enough, that's your view of how the club is run.

I just happen to think it shouldn't be one-way traffic in slating the board and NEVER giving them any credit for anything – it just doesn't give our grievances much credence.

We'd be keen to go ape at them if the window had shut having signed nobody (as most of us cynics predicted) with players flogged so why not praise them when they act in a way we hope they should?
If you just said nothing is EVER good enough and pick on what they MIGHT have done all the time Ashley and Co don't stand a chance.

They have put us through the mill in past and the mistrust is warranted, I wouldn't dare criticise you for that. However a popular excuse or attack on them is they NEVER spend any money, which is false.

Don't dismiss the hard work done to negotiate these incredible deals over the line either. Carr might scout but he doesn't initiate talks or do the groundwork to convince these players to sign with NUFC.
There's also much to be said for how the club worked hard to raise our profile in France and sell the setup pretty cleverly. That stuff we ignore or take for granted but its important to recognise.

That's all, just a bit of balance.

I'd have liked to have seen more action in the summer. Bottom line is though that it made more sense to do the business now over the long term. The squad looks very strong. Throw a top striker in there come the summer, its very very good. The best outside the top bracket of 6-8. The fans problem is what is becoming the disease of modern football, instant success.

The board have acted responsibly as far as funds go, that is all. Its not exciting for us and has certainly contributed to a poor season but there have been other factors such as injuries, poor performance of players and management/coaches. We just need to be patient, give this project 5 years and see where we are.

If we were to sign a top striker and keep everyone else I'd be seriously excited. The starting 11 would on paper be as good as anything outside of Manchester & Chelsea. The squad as a whole would not be far behind.
