wonder if all the irish will be wearing stupid hats all night, drinking tetleys and pretending there english...
Surprised you didn't know that, there are enough clues in Beverley about him- St Johns school, St Johns RC church next to Rose and Crown, bits and bobs in the minster. I think there are even the odd visitors from abroad who come on pilgrimages to the minster for him.
As I've never had need of a school, a church or a minster in Beverley, it's not all that surprising. If Tina had put a picture of him on the walls of Cerruti 2's I might have know him.
Where they're from was the least significant part of my point, my main gripe to be honest is sharing him with dozens of other countries. How can that be a source of patriotism? I'd much rather something akin to Australia Day. I'm 100% guessing here but didnt David, Patrick and Andrew actually do something for their adopted country, at least visit said country and is unique to them? If not, I'll shut up.
St David was Welsh and is only the patron saint of Wales. St Patrick was Welsh but moved to Ireland and is patron saint of Ireland, Nigeria, Montserrat, Roman Catholic Archdiocese of New York, Boston, LoÃza, Murcia (Spain), Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Melbourne. St David had probably never even heard of Scotland, he has no more to do with them as St George did with us and he's also the patron saint of Scotland, Ukraine, Russia, Sicily, Greece, Cyprus, Romania, Diocese of Parañaque, Philippines, Amalfi, Luqa (Malta) and Prussia. It's not very often you get a saint to yourself.
St George is patron saint of England, Georgia (country not the US state), Barcelona & Milan. That's off the top of my head. Are there anymore?
He's patron saint of Georgia, England, Egypt, Bulgaria, Aragon, Catalonia, Romania, Ethiopia, Greece, India, Iraq, Lithuania, Palestine, Portugal, Serbia, Ukraine and Russia. And also of the cities of Genoa, Amersfoort, Beirut, Botoşani, Drobeta Turnu-Severin, Timişoara, Fakiha, Bteghrine, Cáceres, Ferrara, Freiburg, Kumanovo, Ljubljana, Pomorie, Preston, Qormi, Rio de Janeiro, Lod, Lviv, Barcelona, Moscow, Tamworth and the Maltese island of Gozo.
