Pretty much, they got an increased points deduction for failing to follow league rules when exiting the CVA.
I think the rules were changed because of it. If I'm right, I believe that if you now go into admin after a cut off date the points deduction will be applied the following season.
From 2007–08, any club entering administration after the fourth Thursday in March would have their 10-point deduction suspended until the following season. If the club is relegated the points will be deducted from their tally at the start of next season. If the club stays up the 10 points will be taken off their final total.
In a way, yes. Leeds hadn't sorted it out to the satisfaction of the Football authorities as the next season approached. Boston were demoted down the leagues because of a similar situation. The FL didn't want to to lose a club the size of Leeds so agreed to give Leeds their Silver Share entitling them to compete in League One the next season if they promised not to appeal against their 10 point deduction. Bates agreed, but needless to say, went back on his promise as soon as the new season was under way. For that and the fact that they still hadn't sorted things out they were deducted a further 15 points. Leeds fans see this as a conspiracy against their club when in fact the FL bent over backwards to help them in a way they didn't for Boston. Hard to believe fans think there is a conspiracy against their club, isn't it? One thing that stuck in the craw about the Leeds administration was that due to rules andregulations the players got paid the tens of thousands a week due to them, a lot of other people were paid off, but the St John's Ambulance Brigade, without whose presence games can't go ahead, didn't. A trifling amount in the scheme of things but it was the principle that stunk.
I was in the press conference for Ian Holloway's massive rant about it. I think a journo asked a question and he was still answering it 20 minutes later. Brilliant stuff.
Cracking day. Remember the Leeds fans' pitch invasion in a pathetic attempt to get their match abandoned - which just resulted in a delay of around 15 mins. Wonder what the last 10 years would have brought had the results been reversed that day....
It was a fantastic day. Incredible atmosphere all match. I think it was probably only the second away game I'd been to with my mates and it got me hooked. If I remember rightly we took advantage of £5 travel. I can remember being clapped out of Cardiff on the coach by their fans lining the streets. Someone on the coach had caught Myhill's boot when he'd thrown it into the crowd and had started signing a song about it for the next hour. Then when we were outside Cardiff we realised the Leeds game was restarting for the final minute or so and we had to go through it all again, the driver had put it on the radio, nervous our day could be ruined if they scored. Needless to say great celebrations when it was finally confirmed. I also remember on the long journey back having about half the back of the coach crowded round my portable DVD player (remember those?) as we all watched the 04-05 season review until the battery died. Great day, hopefully we can get back to having more days like this when you feel such a connection with your club.
Didn't he play on the left of a front 3 , seem to remember him causing a lot of problems down that side
Is it really 10 years. I was at Sheff Utd v. Watford..with my ear to a radio listening for any score from Ninian Park.....Recall the Leeds vs Ipswich result was delayed after the Leeds fans went onto the pitch when Ipswich scored a late equaliser and the City result was broadcast. Happy days
10 years? That's a sobering thought. I was on a stag do, can't remember much about the whole weekend to be honest.
We bumped into a Leeds fan in the services on the way home , didn't even know they had been relegated, I got to break the news , just about sums them cockwombles up
Spot on. The 2-2 at home a couple of years ago was dramatic, but not a patch on Ninian Park. Obvious the players felt that connection with us at the end.
