All confirmed that Bristol Rovers has to pay us £150,000 for signing Hanlan from us. According to the article though we wanted £750,000+ which to me seems ridiculous. He had his moments Hanlan but he wasn't a world beater at this level. Full article found here: https://bristoltimes.co.uk/index.ph...0-for-hanlan-leaving-gillingham-disappointed/
Thought I'd heard he was coming back to us, no idea where I got it from though, probably twitter. I also thought Hanlan was out of contract when he left us, something else I got wrong. When Hanlan left us I was a tad disappointed, well abit more than a tad, considering the circumstances at the time. So as much has I liked him as a player, I expect some loyalty but you know what, it's £150k, £100k more than they wanted to give us, as for his real value, well as part of a team he helped towards getting Rovers relegated so it left me with a wry smile - which is worth more than any pennies I would have seen.
I've not done any research (apathy!) but think that even if he was out of contract, we are still due compensation because he was under a certain age (? 21) and had come through our youth system
Yep we offered him a new deal but as he's under 24, we're entitled to compensation if we offer him a new deal due to playing a part in his football development.
