A preventative cure is best. I just have a kebab, 2 pints of water and a couple of strong painkillers before I retire. No hangover, just a bit of tiredness.
With all due respect, if you can get 2 pints of water down your neck, clearly you haven't had enough beer.
Drink beer instead of wine, I think it's the dehydration that causes hangovers and beer is 95% water.
